I agree Petticord should have played more minutes, she may be on a minutes restriction, not sure. In my opinion Bowles played 40 minutes because she is the only floor spacer. If you watch, on the strong or weak side, no player helps off her, which allows the bigs to at least work in the paint and provides driving lanes for others. They always put their best defensive player on her it seems and she doesn't get the calls coming off those screen.
Being an old bball player myself, Bowles legs must feel like a ton of bricks. The last 4 games she has played 38, 38, 30 and 40 minutes in the game, I can't imagine that. Even though she shot only 3 shots today, she did manage 5 assists and 5 rebounds.
On offense Fla used top of the key ball screens a lot to bump the defense and get the opposing player on their hip, Need to get better on help defense for sure. Yes, the guards did get beat off the dribble some, that is going to happen, that's why help side D is so important.
I agree Barker is our best player that can do multiple things. She had her best games when you had a floor spacer out there allowing her to work her magic in the paint.
I'm not gong to say they didn't play any defense, they held them 20 points under their season avg. of 75 points. Additionally, held KK Deans, their second leading scorer to only 2 points this game.
They were in this game until the final 3 to 4 minutes, The 3 by Rimdal and that travelling call on Kay Kay didn't help. What I saw was a team that fought hard, with 7/8 players, but ran out of gas at the end. They showed toughness against a good Florida team after getting a beat down against SC.
I choose to be patient and support these girls and this staff until I see a reason to do otherwise. I know what a rebuild looks like. Remember, it took Dawn Staley until her 4th year at SC to reach the NCAA tourney.
