The best chance for this team to win is to make it a tractor pull, not a Kentucky Derby

Work ball inside or high post on offense under ten on the shot clock, rebound layup, or kick out and reset

This team needs to win 52-45 games, not lose 80-52 games in the SEC, know what you have, and adjust

Defense:
Matchup Zone, 1-3-1, 2-3, and trapping corner zone

Overall Theory, best ball handler and floor general, 2-3 shooters, and 1-2 posts; I'd even lean toward two best ballhandlers, two posts, and one shooter

In the 50's, like every game should be for this team. Don't allow ball penetration, if you do, don't leave the person your guarding to help, but allow the post to slide over for the block. Give up 2's, don't give up 3's, 3's kill you, giving up 2's wont, I'd echo this to the Men's team, and to both I'd say don't reach and foul

Offensive rebounding only send to the glass, and get back on defense

UTSA played a well-coached game and arguably was dealing with a more talented Aggie team. It exposed our progress like the Islanders did (who are also well coached and used they to punch us in the mouth a few times and keep us reeling.)

Two games and 1-1 record isn't what we want to see, but there was some effective workmanship especially in the fourth quarter that won the game. It included better play running and demonstrated the kind of fluidity that goes with "positionless" basketball.

With that said: I think the positionless approach works better at the end of the season than the beginning and I wonder if this possible to open games with a canned set of plays. I also cringe at missing free throws since they are FREE. Jada and Lauren were out longing they're players on offense with good positioning and footwork but passes were getting disrupted due to hands in the lane and a wee bit of sloppiness/laziness.

Lots of that will come out on tape and deserves attention. Coaches seem to let them play as. they have been taught while Gary worked through his field general at point more visibly.

I think there can be a health story arc that emerges and we need to look for that. Just remember what well coached teams can do when the players take guidance.

I don't think that is Joni's style. I think the goal is to shoot in the first 10 seconds of possession. At least that's what I remember her saying.

Every men's coach after Gillispie left said the same thing…and were all forced by talent to emphasize defense.

Oh, I don't disagree with you, but I think that's why we see what we are seeing. Not sure we have the shooters for that.

I'm not sure we have a defined 1 yet? Is that Sole? Is that a natural position for her? She seems more comfortable as a 2. Erica Moon at the 1? IDK. I have always loved Jada. She's just a solid player with great touch. I do agree the 5s have to stop putting the ball on the ground so much (especially when we have a noticeable height difference). Not sure we have found an effective starting 5 yet.

I agree that we probably don't have an established starting 5 yet. So many new faces….roles still being worked out. I think Moon looks more natural running the point than Sole.

I think this makes a lot of sense. So many coaches only want to play man, but you have to adjust to your personnel. Plus, switching things up with different zone defenses makes it harder on the opposing offense. We haven't shown the ability to put up big numbers offensively thus far. I know it's very early in the season but not sure how much that will change. Hopefully, our coaches are willing to think outside the box and utilize some strategies that maybe weren't in their original plans for this team.

Hope, but this group hasn't practiced with each other since Summer; injuries and zone take Communication, and this group is in need of that
