Is absolutely fireable. Why on earth was this allowed by our athletic department. We've played like 1 game in 3 weeks...ridiculous

Budget? Trying to keep athletes healthy? Trying a new strategy? Not much going on in the WBB department at TAMU makes a lot of sense. Let's hope there is a method behind the madness that will make us relevant again.

Yeah. A&M will only play 25 regular season games. I thought that this might be a strategy to keep players fresh? They also only play 16 conference games, which is odd.

The 16 conference games for WBB is the norm for the SEC. From the SEC press release:

Quote:

The schedule consists of a single round robin of home or away (14 games) with one rotating opponent that will be played at home and away (2 games). Each team will play eight home games and eight away games. The rotating opponent changes annually. This marks the 17th season of the 16-game schedule for women's basketball.

However, I do believe that the men's teams in the SEC play 18 conference games. I'm not sure why the difference.

Has Joni ever given an explanation as to why we played 4 or 5 less nonconference games than everybody else? It's embarrassing to the program.

She said in one of the radios shows we had Army scheduled - they cancelled the day or day after President Welsh resigned

You'd think a coach on the hottest of hot seats would want to schedule many easy games to inflate her win loss record or to at least get to double digit wins. But I don't think our athletic department was willing to pay small schools to come play us. The buy games we had this non conference were all TAMU System schools. The one destination tournament we went to was to a Mormon college in Hawaii with 1 average team and the other 2 being outside of the top 200. Don't think any relevant tourney or showcase would have taken us. We'd be a quad 4 opponent for power conference teams, so no benefit in playing us.

After a day to think about it, l think this is a move by Trev Alberts to reduce the budget. He let them go on a late November trip, but not playing 4-5 "money games" against UNT, Sam, ULaLa, and UIW (for example) then you didn't have to open Reed Arena, and pay staff and other bills. There might have been 10k people in attendance for all 4 of those games if they had been played. This also keeps the team fresh. Also, after today's ass whipping, it was likely known that we weren't going to have a decent team, (maybe another reason… can't lose if you don't play) and this is a way to give everyone more time to get an exit strategy planned for next season. Just my opinion, I cold be wrong. I just was shocked to see that we had played so many fewer games than other league teams. I'm just doing my best to understand why…
