TBF, I hope those with eligibility remaining do leave and find a better spot for their basketball career and future. This program is where players go to kill their careers currently. They deserve so much better.

No one is going to pay a buyout for Joni. If anyone wants to pay her $1.5M to leave Trev would take that call but the phone is silent

Women's basketball is a low priority right now. Trev will let her contract expire and will not overpay her to buy her contract out.

Never forget N'dea Jones was a top 100 recruit who lived down the road from Athens and was all but committed to Andy Landers. Joni Taylor took the job and never once contacted Jones. She'd then change her plans and commit to Gary Blair and the Aggies. She would break multiple school records, become an All American, multiple first team all conference selections, and get drafted.

This is from the Bat the other day after the t.u. debacle:

Quote:

The Longhorns feasted on their extra possessions, securing 18 points off turnovers to the delight of the burnt orange crowd. A&M head coach Joni Taylor commented on the numerous five-second violations from the Aggies.
"The message to our team was, if we have something and we don't like it, just hold it," Taylor said. "I'd rather have a five second count and set our defense, then get a lot of ball turnover. So some of those turnovers were because of that's what we told them to do."

SAY WHAT? This is COLLEGE basketball. Of a team that won a national championship in the last 2 decades and had multiple elite eight runs in that span. These comments are something you tell a HS freshman team coming off a winless season.

This is a for cause fireable offense in my opinion. (And no, I'm not kidding).

This appears to be a monumental task for this coaching staff? We have 7 Coaches (Head & assistants) as well 7 support staff members for a15 player program. I haven't seen any signs that they can.

I think it's just that they are being grossly outcoached at half time. (the entire time if we're being honest). Takes teams about a half to figure out Ny and Fats; outside of that and the occasional Kent good game, we have nothing to worry any team in the SEC.

It is remarkable that we have 7 coaches for 15 players. lol - Insane.

We are season ticket holders and Fast Break Club members.

I cannot continue to attend games in person - the incompetence drives me crazy.

The inability to inbound the ball is pure coaching neglect.

If we keep Joni two more years Reed will be empty for women's games.

And then I hear that Joni canceled her radio show Monday due to Martin Luther King day holiday. Should have been practicing ALL DAY.

I don't think I've seen a high school game, much less a middle school game, where a team has 6 five second calls while inbounding the ball…

Or have I ever heard a coach admit to willingly accept those 5 second calls… she's a division one coach, one of the highest paid at that. Was she mentally unable to draw up some different inbound designs, couldn't come up with different screens, stacks, horns, any type of concept. Like they said above, 7 different coaches on staff and not one is competent enough. Her husband is chief of basketball strategy (whatever that is) so is he the one to blame for this? I was watching the game with family and we started laughing, it was comical.

This was with a whole week to prepare. We sat at home while Texas was coming back from LSU, then spent 4 days preparing for South Carolina, then flew back late Thursday night, then had a day or two to prepare for us while we were off all week on a bye. Yet we ran out of gas, we looked clueless, we looked lost. And I'm pretty sure Schaefer looked more dissapointed in the result. It's all coaching. It's almost like teams don't have to scout for us, just make easy adjustments in game because they know Joni Taylor is incapable.

It's evident the students won't attend anymore, I've respected how the alumni attend, but I don't know how you all sit through this. I'd be disgusted and embarrassed. It must be so hard watching this unfold in person.

I have had 2 WBB season tickets since before GB became head coach and it was pretty bad during the Peggy Gillom days as well. Tickets are reasonable priced, due to no demand, but I can probably apply that $500+ somewhere else next year if we don't make a change.

is it worse than what G did with the soccer team this year?

Oh man I've been waiting for this because they are very similar. Both coaches saw most of their athletes quit and leave them, albeit it's been a recurring theme for Joni Taylor. With G it was just the last season or two. They then both built rosters full of mid major players who just aren't talented enough for the SEC. But the seasons are going very similar. Like soccer won a few against the 2 worst teams in the conference, i expect women's basketball to do the same. However, it's just abundantly clear we are nowhere near average nor remotely close to the top schools in the conference. Both teams were forced to throw a roster together and try to survive a season.

G, although losing a touch in recruiting, was still able to bring in some talent towards the tail end of their career. Unlike Joni. Despite the consistent losing, Coach G also seemed much more passionate and took those losses personally. Another difference is despite everyone leaving, G tried and believed he could still accomplish something, no matter how delusional that might have been. It's also hard to compare, but G is a legend of collegiate soccer and has done so damn much for the sport and for this university. They're incomparable when it comes to being an Aggie. One bled maroon. G was also really successful before the depressing finish and accomplished so much and built this program.

Both coaches have just spent the last few years losing and hurting the program. For Joni's sake at least she's not acting out like Coach G did. Coach G spent most of his pressers calling out his athletes or used any chance he got to bring up the girls who transferred out or call them names. But it's obvious both knew there was no hope or turning things around. For one it was retirement after an illustrious and accomplished career, the other it's about collecting millions regardless of the outcome.

So in one way you have a program builder vs a program destroyer lol.

It's just been so hard to see what both of these programs have become over the last few years. I know some (or a lot of you) think I'm just some hater or have something against these coaches, but I just hate to see this. I hate the embarrassment, I hate the losing, I hate the ineptitude. These were proud programs. I welcomed Joni with wide open arms, I was excited to see if she could carry on Blair's legacy, I believed. I was excited when her injured roster won two games in the SEC tourney year 1, I was excited on this board when I thought we could win that tourney game in year 2. And I'd love to ignore my brain and cheer blindly and sugarcoat things or celebrate meaningless moments or wins against the worst teams in the country, but it's just obvious when everything is failing and the hope is all gone. I hate the feeling. It was the same for soccer and it's the same feeling now. I'm no expert on sports, but it's obvious when it's all over.

I may be crazy or blindly optimistic, but I just love my school and I want to see succeed everywhere I'm a first gen college kid who followed scholarship money not having any ties or knowledge about this place, but completely fell in love with it. I think Texas A&M is special and has all the resources to win. This school, this community, you, is the 12th Man we deserve to win and should win. Watching this season, and the past few years unfold… It just hurts man.

With all that said, today's game on paper should result in a win. Mizzou's in a complete rebuild with a first year coach in Kellie Harper. They are decimated with injuries. They don't do anything well at all. They play a zone defense most of the game, they are slow, they can't defend, they can't rebound, they can't score, they can't shoot shoot, they turn it over like crazy. They run their offense on the perimeter and run a lot of it through Grace Slaughter who's their only scorer, but she could easily be shut down.

Surprisingly we are more talented than them, bigger than them, more athletic than them, and should win. The only thing that gives me doubt is this is a Joni Taylor led team. So we'll see how it goes.
