It's not Joni I blame at this point. She's shown her cards. This is all on Trev. As much good as he's done with the other programs, this one has been an abject failure.

This board needs to realize under the current NIL system we're not going to ever be elite in WBB. I don't see the support for it. The donors who fund all this are already getting hammered on all the other sports.

Again maybe a new coach can massage more NIL money outta the donors. I just don't see it.
That is probably true but it isn't our fate or destiny. It's just honest analysis.

but changing coaches alone doesn't fix everything, if there isn't NIL support then we may be "better" but we won't be competing with the team in the top 10.

I think if there was some support now Trev would have made a move already.

Also i think the WBB NIL market is more overpriced than the MBB market is. I can see a correction coming on some of that, maybe Trev is just riding that out or hoping it comes back to reality before he has to make a new hire.

This is what is about to happen to our WBB IMO. Or it should. Just drop it if we cannot fund it to compete at the highest level. Push the funds to the programs that are excelling.

Very sad state of affairs

My guess is we can't drop WBB, i bet the tv contracts have that in them that all schools have WBB.

I think the key is not the absolute loss numbers but where the extra funding comes from for first the 20.5 million allowed by House Agreement and then what the (plausible) possibilities are for (legitimate) external NIL deals.

Supposedly Michigan spent about $10 million for the men's basketball championship last year so I'd guess about half that for a competitive women's team. But it is impossible to tell from outside the program where exactly we are struggling on personnel acquisition for our team.

Given all the moving parts I wouldn't be surprised to ride out her contract and work with the TMF and former students to establish a funding approach that addresses sports in some kind of priority order.

We have an NC in women's basketball and three NCs in softball as legacy trophies. So I would like to think they receive meaningful attention strategy wise which suggests the situation will get attention. But letting the NIL era stabilize more first might be wise.

I think our women's program would be happy to have the money with the decimal place moved over even another digit. Not 50% but even 5% to work with.

Hopefully the event next week gets more people involved.

Agreed - hope it opens some eyes. I don't think Joni would draw Cori Close if Cori didn't believe in her herself.

My number was a guess for being competitive to win an NC in a single year. Not a projection of what we spend.

1). What is her hubby's function in our program if any? Wasn't he a GM with the NBA's ATL team at one point?
2). I think the time she spent with the USA women's Olympic team really hurt her efforts all over. She didn't take advantage of that and we have fallen into the crack since.
