Is anyone familiar with the process to condemn property? We have a house next to our property literally falling apart and full of the previous owners junk. And by falling apart I mean an entire wall has caved in.

Just curious if anyone has experience with this? Ideally I'd file a public nuisance complaint and either the owner remedies the situation or the county condemns it and remedies it. At the same time, that might be wishful thinking that the county would ever actually do anything.

1. Look up the owner on the tax assessor's page and do a deed search to see if there's a lien on the place
2. Look up the registered owner's name on the county court page to see if a bank has already filed to foreclose on the house
3. If 1 and 2 check out, send letter to owner offering to buy it as a neighbor
4. ???
5. Profit!

You need to contact the City to find out if they have condemned it. If so, ask them how long they expect it to be before they demolish it. The City is in control of this procedured.

I considered trying to contact and purchase but it appears to be fairly complicated. Two individuals (one in Houston and one in Wisconsin) bought it for ten dollars. I assume it's a family deal. I'm also not interested in the full property (5.5 acres) as there is a public road and other aspects I don't care for. Still an option but not sure if it's worth the hassle.

As far as the city goes, this is county property, just outside of city limits. As far as I know, the only way for the county to act on it is to file a public nuisance complaint though the health department.

If this is in Texas, putting in a consideration of $10 or $15 is how they get around making the sale price public. On the other hand in my state the actual price is in there.

If you're interested in buying the part with the house, be careful. If there's lead paint and/or asbestos, it may be a bigger headache than you want to deal with.

Just tell them there is a hoarder inside. Seems like code enforcement is always on top of those types if A&E is to be believed.

We buy those kinds of property and clean them up. PM me a parcel number or address and I will do some homework and see if it's buyable

Unless they are willing to sell it, there's nothing you can do if it's out in the country.
