i'm a new transplant to Beaumont and am trying to understand the housing market (availability, pricing, where new builds & developments are occurring)... do any of you folks know about this place?

It appears that along hwy 90 toward Liberty is going to primed to be developed. I also assume that from Beaumont towards Barbers Hill (along I-10) is eventually going to connect in the next 20 years or less.

If any of you have information on Beaumont and how to understand this "interesting" city it'd would be most appreciated, thanks!

Look into Mid County. Nederland or Pt. Neches. 15 min. from Bmt., low crime, excellent schools, etc. You'll be much happier.

Born and raised there. Got the hell out when I turned 18.

My friends that still live there are in the west end or a bunch live in Lumberton, which was essentially another Vidor back in the day.

Agreed on private school in Beaumont. I went to St. Annes and Kelly.

We lived in Lumberton for 5 years and liked it okay. I hated Beaumont but there were a few neighboring towns that were okay.

Look 35 minutes north up Highway 69 at Wildwood…its a gated golf course community in a good/small school district (Warren ISD)..

Born in Beaumont in 1955. My two daughters still live there with my grandkids and I work there three days a week. Know the market well.

First of all, is it just you or a family?

We bought a house on Lanark with my older daughter and I stay there when I work and love it.

My email is wecollins77@gmail.com. We can discuss this in depth if you like.

What year did you graduate? I graduated from WB in '95, but had a ton of friends at Kelly.

I had a couple of job offers that would have moved me back to Beaumont. Wife threatened divorce, so I passed. .

That's a haul. I love Wildwood but it's out there.

I would think H-J and Idylwild would be better.

Made that drive from Wildwood to the plant in Port Arthur for over 20 years. It was worth the miles, drive time and gas money having the kids grow up there and in that school district. The drive to Bmt. wouldn't be bad at all.

If you work for ExxonMobil, you'll see that the non-SETX transplants always buy in BMT. Very few of the folks who join the company in BMT and remain in SETX live in BMT.

A lot of my family is from Warren (some still there, including Wildwood). Also have family in Lumberton. I would choose any of the above over Beaumont no matter how bad the drive was.

I just mapped Wildwood to the Port Arthur Valero and it was almost exactly 1 hour.

Had somebody asked me I would have told them that would be 90 minutes. I'm surprised it's that close.

I drive 45 minutes to work and don't mind it at all.

Again, look in Nederland or Pt.Neches. Excellent schools, very little crime, 10 min. to Valero and other refineries, good selection of restaurants and shopping, nice place to live.
