I've been focused on acquiring land for cattle management for some time and would be interested in exploring a large parcel of grazing pasture, with 20-25 people.

We are seeing a cultural shift in society and I believe it prudent to think long term, in countering the eventual consequences.

Estimated target investment of $100k each. $75k of which goes to the land. $25k to seed cattle and supplies. There would be an established max budget for ongoing management. Any overages would be advanced by me and offset with future profits.

If 10+ have genuine interest then we'd begin efforts to flush out details.

I'm open to finding creative ways to keep future cattle production away from big corporations, though I know that it may be a pipe dream.

The first question I have:

1) Where would the land be bought? 75K per 25 investors is under $2 million. Even at 10K an acre that most decent pastures are gonna cost these days, that's less than 200 acres. I think you may be underestimating the biggest market barrier to cattle production - the land cost.

If you're looking at 400 acres or less, your carrying capacity probably won't exceed 100 adults. You wouldn't need even a quarter of 625K worth of cattle to stock that acreage with above average genetics. I can see fencing and facilities adding up quickly and getting close to that 625K depending on the land you acquire, but a turnkey ranch property could be stocked for much lower than 25% of the initial investment.

Edit - or were you thinking of a lease model for acquiring the land? Even that would come with its own set of challenges and I believe the way land sales are trending that cattle leases will die off significantly in the coming years.

You might run this idea by the OB. Lots of experienced ranchers post there. At they will know the trip wires.

Oh and OB can be rough on newbies. Wear your alligator skin over there.

As mentioned I have significant operations, so this isn't my first rodeo. To he clear, while each individual signing on would be equal with each other, I would be the cornerstone of the opportunity, covering the majority cost of 800-1000 acres. There are pastures available at $6800+ in Leon, Robertson, Ellis and other counties.

Again, assessing interest so shoot me a pm and if we have 10+ interested I'll action with an initial meeting.

OP asks for 100 grand, respondent claims to be too poor for $5/month service.

Poor/ cheap, what's the difference?

In reality, I got scolded and banned for a post I made after the election and decided I didn't need the paid membership any longer.

Not sure if I'm interested or not but I would like to hear more.
Sounds very similar to an idea I had a couple years ago.
I run a small number of baldies (cow/calf) on 30 acres I have in north Texas and have been looking to buy more land but land up here is getting stupid expensive
