My daughter is moving to DC in a few weeks. She'll be working on the east side. Any thoughts would be appreciated, especially areas to avoid (east coast is not an acceptable response).

Check Arlington and Alexandria areas. The Metro makes movement around DC pretty easy so there shouldn't be a need to locate near her job site. HTH

Does she have connections thru work or any friends there? Group living with roomates is really the only affordable option. It's a transient place, lots of folks moving in and out all the time. Chances are someone where she works is looking for a roommate or knows someone who is.
