Could you not just raise it a few feet? Practically the whole Nassau bay neighborhood has been raised.

Also, that house looks like a pain in the ass to live in.
sure....for a couple hundred grand. You basically kill the aesthetics though.

most of the people I saw that raised there homes around me received FEMA grants to do so. Doesn't make a ton of tense to come out of pocket.

I'm not sure how much water braeswood gets, but figured it wouldn't need to be raised like Nassau Bay, who raised their homes enough to put a car under. Completely agree about the aesthetician but I figured a foot or two lift wouldn't do too much to damage that and could be worked around aesthetically. As with your neighbors, most of NB had fema grants as well. I'm not aware of the costs, but I thought a lot of the cost would be making the now large area underneath your home look like the rest of your home. So it doesn't look dumb, which wouldn't be too much of an issue with a small lift. Agree though that a couple hundred grand would not be worth it.

Also the only reason I mention it is due to the uniqueness of the house. There aren't many out there like that so it very well may be worth preserving for someone.

most of the homes in that area get raised at least six feet or so. You're not going bother spending the money and hassle to raise one of these homes and not get out of the floodplain (probably not allowed to now that I think about it).

I have seen some raises where the home doesn't look completely absurd, but not many.

Yea I agree a 6+ foot lift wouldn't work on a house like that.

Yep, that's the stuff that dreams are made from, which means that someone will probably demo and put up something generic in its place.

People are spending $300K-400K or more to raise a house that would cost $150,000 to rebuild.
