I requested a mortgage pre-qualification from Pen-fed yesterday. Today, my phone has been ringing all day every minute. WTF... Who leaked my info????

There's about half a dozen good Aggie lenders, including sponsors on this board that keep the lights on and post regularly, who can give you great service, a great rate, and I guarantee won't sell your contact info to everyone on the internet.

Penfed likely did not sell your info, more likely Transunion, Experian or Equifax did. It is a called a trigger lead.

Never put your real cell phone number on an application or most anything. Change up the last 2 digits.

Good news it only last 2 weeks if you are good at blocking numbers

I've never had a client tell me this happened to them when using a lender on this board (also hasn't happened to me personally either).

That's pretty awesome... Our Ag lenders must not need a credit check to process a mortgage...

I actually confronted my penfed guy and he assured me it's not them. It's the credit Co. And they in fact penfed also buys info from the lead Co.

This is my 7th time looking for a mortgage and it's the first time my phone blew up.

Everyone needs a credit report. Remove the phone number before running credit and they don't get it. After the credit report re-enter the phone number.

Another example of why you should use a good Aggie lender. They won't get your phone blown up with an application. Going to add this to my list.

Wow what a scam these credit agencies are.

My source on that information is one I trust. Whether or not a phone number is displayed on the credit report, that report pulls from the application. If the borrower transposes numbers in his social security number that's the number it searches.

Some ******** did something like that when he bought some property. I've been getting calls ****ing constanly for YEARS from people wanting to buy the property.

I just started telling them the guy died. I even got one guy to show up at the house and knock on the door.

They can call anybody but me. So many companies that require your phone number to check out online. I give them one alright! But I've never really thought about someone actually having the number I always use.

Why would you do that? Good credit should help you maximize your net worth, not your credit score. It's like trying to make A+'s in graduate school.

Wont help OP but anyone else that is going to go through it needs to go to https://www.optoutprescreen.com/ and do a permanent opt out by mail (you can do a 5 year opt out online as well just have to do it every five years). This will stop all of the junk mail and phone calls from trigger leads.

Side note - leaving your cell phone out or giving the last digits incorrectly, if it has already been reported to the credit bureau doesn't make a difference. We don't transmit any customer data to the bureau when we pull yet my clients still end up getting calls.

What Hachieaggie10 said. Make sure you do optoutprescreen.com a couple of days before you get your credit pulled.

Its a complete crock that the bureaus sell all of the data. On top of that they are increasing the cost of getting your credit pulled by up to 900% for some lenders.
