We're building a home in west Houston and noticed a prominent crack in the newly poured slab shortly after they started framing. My builder is telling me that it's nothing to worry about and that they'll monitor it, but that doesn't comfort me. I'm looking for a home inspector with an engineering degree or a civil/structural engineer to evaluate the foundation.

How long? Any gap in it? Post-tensioned slab? Has it been tensioned yet? You can pay an engineer for peace of mind, but concrete cracks. It's not necessarily a huge issue

You really need to take readings and then another set in a year.

I've just placed slabs using fiber mesh reinforcement. 6000 PSI strength , finishes smooth, and NO shrinkage cracks. Not 1..

I'm a believer. Putting in several more after the first of the year..
