My little brother has a lease at the woodlands in college station and Asset Living is the management company managing the property in 2023. Their lease has been terrible. Maintenance requests have gone unanswered or took an unreasonable amount of time to get fixed, the property is trashed and he does not enjoy living or want to live there anymore. he has unfortunately already signed a lease for summer 23 to summer 24. I believe he has a good case to get out of the lease, but wanted to reach out here to see if there was a contact at Asset Living we could contact directly?

My understanding is this company is huge and it could be an uphill battle, but wanted to give it a shot anyway. Appreciate any help possible!

I can't give you legal advice but you'd need to identity which portions of the Texas Property Code that the landlord violated that give him the right to terminate the lease and vacate. It's not going to be an easy fight and they will likely go after his deposit, his time, and possibly his and his guarantor's credit.

Has he asked whoever the contact is for their supervisors contact info? Might try to run it up as far as possible.

The best angle would be to try to negotiate out of next year's lease. He should expect to give up something. His deposit would probably be the minimum. A lot will depend on their occupancy for next year.

Or you can try to take a hard line if you think you have a real good case. But you need to expect to go to court. Where you'll end up in front of a possible wild card JP judge that may or may not care at all about what the law says or might just be completely incompetent to hold the position.

working on getting supervisors info today. So far have come up empty - trying to go about this as amicably as possible before we throw around the "we'll sue you card"

Same people? Might be a prime time to squeeze them, if so.

May be a hard battle. My question if I was landlord, "Why did you sign another year lease if you are not happy here?" Seems like he's happy enough, so much so that a lease extension was signed.

Yikes! Renewal 6 months in advance? Is this a thing in College Station?
