Our family with 2 kids under 2 is looking to move out of Houston to The Woodlands/Spring area and have really liked the Benders Landing/BL Estates communities because of the good public schools and large lots. Can anyone give insight how the area is with young kids and what kind of community feel there is?

Are there any other areas you would recommend looking at?

You will find more community of families with young kids in Harmony or Woodsons Reserve. My kids are older now, so I wouldn't mind a big lot and extra space now, but when they were young we really appreciated having a bunch of kids on the street they could play with.

Just my opinion, others may have had different experiences.

Tons of young kids in Benders. Just a less dense neighborhood in general given the larger lots so has a different feel. The average Benders lot width of 150' would have 2-3 houses on it in the nearby neighborhoods. Many folks in Spring Trails and Harmony move back into Benders to raise their kids when they're 5-6 or so.

As for activities, there's all the usual stuff (Scouts, sports, etc) either in community or near by. Always a good amount of kids playing at the park or on the sports fields, etc. too.

They were asking about Benders and likely larger lots and you come in with Bridgelands and call it close to downtown ? I mean, read the room my man.

Ive been to Bridgelands. It's the definition of suburban hellscape. The streets are narrow and you feel like the houses are on top of you.

I view Benders with the larger lot size, actual trees as a far superior option and specifically what the OP was asking about.

Oh- I do not live in Benders. I've just been to both areas and one is considerably nicer from my vantage point with a much more favorable tax rate.

Bridgeland is a cookie cutter suburb that serves a purpose but is overcrowded, flat, barren of trees and lacks most desirable day to day necessities. I

The comment came from the guy looking at Benders and saying he wanted to be in the Spring/Woodlands area. One could infer that he was talking about other neighborhoods in that area.

You jumped in the the welcome to Bridgeland pitch calling it close to downtown when that was not apparently something he asked for.

My comment back was why would he want to live in the flatlands no where near his target area on small, jammed packed neighborhoods around detention ponds. If we are being honest, at least Towne Lake let's you get a pontoon up and running on their detention ponds.

I've only been to both too but I agree - there is no comparison from my perspective.

In my experience, people who live in Bridgeland are like people who go to Baylor, in that there is a weird, yet consistent, compulsion to tell you how it's the best place ever and you just have to experience it to understand it.

First, Bridgeland not Bridgelands…strike one.
Second, I said convenient to downtown, not close. I've travelled from Benders to downtown and from Cypress to downtown, not a lot of difference…strike two.
Third, he asked if there were any other areas to look. Bridgeland(not s) has many larger lots between 12k sq ft up to 1/2-3/4 acre in some gated sections with more coming on the other side of 99)…strike three.

Having schools in the neighborhood, tons of young families from downtown area, and a sense of community may have allowed for consideration…since he seems to be open to other areas.

no dog in this fight but average lot in Bridgeland is 8K sqft. Largest I've seen on the MLS in the last 6 months is about a half acre.

Benders is acreage lots for the most part.

Just not similar neighborhoods at all.

Well how else do they justify giving the HOA a percentage of their sales price?
