If he's not, this conference has very little time left.

He's trying to make a very difficult marriage work.

I really like what the south has become. I think being in the same division with OU and OSU has been good for us. There are some really good rivalries there.

And I think OU and OSU appreciate them as well. But the North is a real problem. No one has any problem with KU basically hosting the Big 12 tourney every year in basketball, but we can't have the Big 12 championship game in football in Texas. There's lots of resentment in the North. It's been a bad deal for MU and CU. Nebraska doesn't run the conference. That's why you keep seeing those three teams in the discussion any time expansion comes up.

Our conference doesn't have much history. There's not much holding it together.

Why A&M fans want to play in the SEC is beyond me. For years Aggies have accused Mack of cheating and paying for players, wait till your in the SEC where it is commonplace.

Dude in M&W said that we should just add Notre Dame if we lose Missouri and Nebraska. Wow.

I would welcome a move to the Pac 10, actually.

I can see a multitude of different things happening including the Big 12 just plugging leakes for teams that we lose.

But you have to think that if things keep going the way they are now, the Big 12 is eventually going to die.

I think stating a Texas conference would be beyond badass, too.

The current talk is all about the Pac 10, but I hope it doesn't happen because the time difference and the resulting lack of media coverage is significant to me. I too prefer the SEC.

The main arguments for the PAC 10 are the academic compatibility and the perception of massive cheating in the SEC.

Personally, I don't see the academic situation as significant and not as great a difference as it would appear at first glance. The original Big 8 schools are certainly no Harvards, and neither are the Pac 10 schools in Arizona, Washington, and Oregon. While Stanford, Cal, and UCLA are stellar institutions, so are Vanderbilt, Georgia, and Florida.

The Big 8 schools cleaned up their act some when UT and A&M required it, and I think some progress could be made in the SEC if we decide to go there. They'd jump at it if both UT and A&M requested admission, and I think it would be the best solution.

Seeing as how Nebraska is still pissed about this and it is one of the reasons they are leaving, I doubt it's going to happen again if we go to the SEC.

Not sure if UT or anyone from Big 12 can handle SEC quite honestly.

You mean like when LSU used to get killed on a regular basis by A&M, so they had to turn chickensh\t and back out of their contract?

And yet LSU has won more championships than yall ( I hate LSU btw. ), but SEC is a completely different animal when it comes to defense.

You act like A&M has never been known for their defense.

Yes, our defense sucks since Fran. But before that, we were KNOWN for our defense. You think we can't get back to what we once had?

That's what I don't get about so many fanbases...they assume the current status quo is the way it will ALWAYS remain. History shows time and again that it is not the case. But continue to bury your head in the sand and assume A&M will never be competitive with anyone in the SEC.

Sure sounds like the PAC 10 to me.

A&M and Cal Berkley. What a culture shock for everyone.

California has four schools ranked above Texas or A&M in academics. OU will be quite the surprise to them. Where reading is fun.

This might be fun, except the late night games.

We'd take our lumps in the SEC the first couple of years, no doubt. I think our recruiting would improve though.

I have already accepted Tech's fate as a member of a smaller conference, and not in the same conference as UT and A&M at some point in the near future.

It is what it is. Tech doesn't have the proximity to major TV markets that A&M and UT have, and Tech doesn't have the same size student bodies.

So no sour grapes here.

But: does any of this discussion disturb the college football purists among you?

Does it make anyone else besides me pretty sad to see the college game becoming truly all about television ratings and packages and sponsorships and endorsements?

For my part, I pretty much quit watching the NFL because it seems to me that it became a game of money rather than a game of football.

I hate to see the same thing happening to the college game.

I agree, it bothers me too.

But that's the nature of things.

Smack aside, tech will come out alright in this thing. Probably not in a big dog conference, but in a good conference, nonetheless.

A big loss here will be the tard-tu and tard-a&m games. Lots of great moments and heartbreak for everyone in those matchups.

You can thank the NCAA for this. If their managerial structure wasn't so completely incompetent, this wouldn't be an issue at all. However, the rules of the game do not favor innovation in anyway . . . its simply each school chasing the mightier dollar.

There are simply too many unknowns, but the big question is simple . . . would there be enough left over of the Big XII to form a new BCS conference (albeit a *******ized one) with the remaining schools + a few others?

Anyone actively trying to figure out where this is headed is an idiot, just way too many unknowns.

I say we create a Texas League. All Texas residents must play in the state. Any Texas player leaving would not be eligible for Division I.

A&M, tceh, tu, tcu, gaylor, smu, rice, cougar high.

We can use concordia for water boys.

Lots of easy to travel road trips. F the money.

We'd play one of North Texas, SHSU, and Texas State each year as an opener.

Imagine how many Ags would actually attend away games and the math $$$$ and fun could get interesting

OU, LSU, and Arkansas would get regular invites.

Tell me this would not be more fun.

I think so. Which is why I think Tech (and possibly Baylor) will come out of this OK.

I guess I'm not a purist because I sure don't miss playing Rice, TCU, SMU, Baylor, UofH, etc. I thought I would miss playing t.u. but there were so many big games in the SEC that I didn't really care if we played them again. Also, the sips claiming that there was no rivalry and that we didn't matter played a role as well.
