If Patterson was just spit-balling about playing a game in Dubai last August, and this really is a very well-publicized fundraising trip, things are even worse financially than Patterson has let on.

I'm sure there are some TexasExes in the region, and I'm sure they have some spare coin. But this puts a whole other spin on the phrase, "If Mohammed won't come to the mountain, the mountain will come to Mohammed."

Texas is NOT trying to bring a football game to Dubai. End of story. Media getting something wrong? Shocker...
Any official statement from the athletic department to back up your claim??

Mack isn't sending twitter pics from a vacation. Unless he and Sally are getting kinky with Patterson's wife and two former horn athletes.

Why are they in Dubai?? Just to raise money??

Any official statememt that Texas is indeed looking to schedule a game in Dubai? No. One comes before the other.

The trip was to get presence for the University there. Fact finding. Looking at partnerships for research or institutional cooperation.

If a game is played there, it would be basketball only.

Tell you what... come find me when a football game is actually scheduled in the Middle East. It aint happening.

Former Texas coach Mack Brown and lettermen David Thomas and Ricky Brown are all currently in Dubai on a football-related trip meant to explore future possibilities for Texas athletics, a source told the American-Statesman.

Brown has posted various photos on his Twitter account of himself and wife Sally in Dubai. Late Monday, Mack Brown posted a photo that included Thomas and Ricky Brown. Included in the photo was Texas athletic director Steve Patterson's wife Yasmin, who speaks Arabic.

Steve Patterson, who is not on the trip, has made no secret of his wishes to expand the UT brand.
The men's basketball team will play the 2015-16 season opener against Washington in China. Department officials are actively looking at moving a football game to Mexico, another idea on Patterson's wish list.

From the Statesman story.

From a TexasEx meeting in Dubai who met Mack Brown today:

- When I talked about how I posted on the boards and kind of wanted to know what might be happening in terms of bringing an athletic event out here to Dubai, he said "tell the Orangebloods guys and Chip Brown that we're thinking about moving the OU game out here to Dubai" he said with a wink and a chuckle. Everybody was kind of shocked and laughing, but then he said that there is absolutely no plan to put a football game out here. He even said in addition to a number of other reasons how logistically it wouldn't be fair to the kids with travel for this kind of event during a football season.

- I told him that a bunch of news outlets are trying to carry a story saying that Texas would bring a game to Dubai. He responded in a joking way by saying "you can tell its quiet in college sports right now because the media is bored ."

- In terms of sporting events they would focus on three key geographies to build bridges for the University. None are for any of you guys to worry over. Likely exhibition basketball similar to what Duke did out here in Dubai vs the local national team and a basketball game in China.

- The rest was about expanding the University's partnerships across the board with business people and potential tie ups for UT in research or institutional cooperation.

Why send Mack if they are just fact finding for the university? I think I'd send faculty, regents, etc not my ex football coach and some former athletes

If it doesn't happen, it's definitely because it wouldn't be fair for the kids. No other reason.

Yep. The Hogs were willing to do what the Aggies were not willing to take a chance on doing.

Yes same as Virginia Commonwealth Qatar campus
Yep, same as Cornell, Carnegie Mellon, Northwestern and Georgetown at Qatar.
Ahh, moving the goal posts. Your shi$$y arab country built on slave labor is okay because others are in on the act.

Well played.

1. SEC chooses bowl match ups. We don't.
2. They matched a 6-6 team against a 6-6 team and a 7-5 team against a 7-5.
3. Your coach just admitted to not wanting to play us right now.
4. You really suck at this.

I find it hard to believe that any self-respecting college program would agree to play the sips on their POS network too......but obviously there are some programs who would sell their soul and their pride for the right price. Dubai game could happen.......just gotta find the right sucke......err, partner.

Dear, I'm married to a Razorback. That fan base was chomping at the bit to play you guys. They hate you much more than the Ags ever will. I know you won't believe that, but Clint Stoerner was recently interviewed about Arkansas' biggest rival. He said it was still the horns, and will always be the horns.

Memories of the SWC still burn brightly for the only school not in the state of Texas.

You don't seem to have any clue what you're talking about. The A&M Qatar campus was posted in response to one of you fanboys beating your dick raw about the "influence" t.u. has in the Middle East, which is to say none. Nobody was comparing the socioeconomic conditions of the various Middle East countries.

I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. I appreciate your knowledge that VCU is there - doing Liberal Arts, IIRC. I found it interesting that you equated our efforts in Qatar with VCU while leaving out the other four schools, all of which - including A&M - generally enjoy a greater academic reputation than VCU is currently afforded. I appreciate your giving me the opportunity to point that out, and to show you exactly what "goal post" at which I was aiming. Thank you.
