well we had one for years and years.

I don't think it means the Houston Open would move there. There are TPC courses do not host an event.
What do you boys want for breakfast BBQ ?.....OK Chili.

True. Just seems most that don't host a PGAT are resort / destination / vacation areas. Not something anyone would expect in this case.

It would take an awful lot to get either course at Sweetwater ready to host a PGA Tour event...not just the course but the overall infrastructure needed for the crowds is nothing to overlook.

I'm a COH resident, but if I weren't, I'd be eager to see that fee come down at Memorial and having the Tour stop move away would certainly help that I'd think.

There was an LPGA connection to Sweetwater. That could be a factor. Ok, 40 years ago, but still a connection.

Quote:

The LPGA does not currently host an annual professional tournament in Sugar Land, the city has a deep history with the organization. Sweetwater Country Club in Sugar Land previously served as the home for the LPGA headquarters (1985-1989) and hosted the LPGA Hall of Fame Classic in the 1980s.

I have been a member at Black Hawk for about 8 months since I moved back from the Scotland work assignment. The course is in good shape and members keep the pace of play at 4 hours or less which makes for enjoyable rounds. Great facilities including a brand new gym and complimentary on-site child care are other nice benefits that set it apart from the other local options I looked at (along with it being close to my commute).

Next door at Shadowhawk they started a complete renovation of the fairways and greens few weeks back. It will be interesting to see how the course is once it opens back up end of this year. Service and amenities are great there also.

Just joined black hawk. Switched from falcon point in December. Loving it so far.

They are re-doing all the bunkers on South course right now. Drive past it every week on Fry

My course was closed a couple weeks ago and I stopped at blackhorse to hit balls. Was told I could not buy a bucket of balls unless I had a tee time. 75% of the range was open....not allowed to hit balls

Yep. No range balls if no tee time…

Longwood is the same way, FYI.

So members aren't allowed to practice?

Sorry if unclear… both Blackhorse and Longwood are semi-private.

Members are allowed to practice at both places. The public can't just come buy a bucket of balls.

Longwood just has a very limited amount of tee times open to the public and will become fully private once they hit their membership number.

I get that it seems weird if the range is empty but they probably can't leave that to discretion. If you're gonna have memberships, they get priority and you can't risk the 20 year old in the pro shop filling up the range for $8/bucket and then a bunch of members show up. I get why they have that rule.

IOW, it's tough to sell memberships if it comes with "but if a guy with $8 bucks shows up first, sucks to be you."

They were charging $20/bucket before they made the policy change. It was a cash cow that apparently they didn't need. Good for them, I guess?

I presume they've done the math and think going private/semi-private makes more business sense. Once that decision was made, I don't see how they can be both semi-private and neighborhood by-the-bucket driving range. Time will tell if they made the right decision.

No doubt they've made their decision. It's been obvious for a long time now that they don't want Joe Public out there. It's actually a good little practice area. (Better practice area than golf course). It is an ENORMOUS range, too.

I was just noting that it wasn't $8/bucket. It was $20… and even that wasn't enough revenue to justify letting Joe Public come bang ball. More power to them if they can pull it off.

TPC The Woodlands was a really solid course for its time. It got killed by the length of the game unfortunately. But it has some really fun holes. 17 and 18 are a fantastic finishing pair of holes, 2 and 12 were fun with the big mounds, and 13 has the island green. I try to play it at least once a year still.

There is a members only area

Then like 70% of the range is open

Its off of mats

You let the public hit there every day, its not some private amenity. $20 for 30 min and a bucket of balls off a mat or $120 for 5 hours in a cart

Sounds dumb to me still lol
