Any members at Bay Oaks Country Club in Clear Lake? Can anyone speak to the course conditions, typical members, quality of competition, amenities, etc.?

This is one of those courses that doesn't get much chatter in the Houston region, but being a ClubCorp premier course I would have high expectations.

It's been 20 years, but my Pops gave me the impression that it's a really well maintained tough/tricky layout... maybe to the point of being too tricked up, in a punishing way.

I've played a few times as a guest as well as in a couple of charity tournies. Always in very nice shape. Guest fees last time I played (summer before last) was north of $100. Not really worth that kind of money in my opinion. But I do think the facilities are quite nice.

edit: replied to wrong poster; meant for OP. Sorry about that.

My buddy is ClubCorp so I've played it a couple of times with him. Guest fees were around $125, so my wife doesn't let us go there too often.

Definitely a nice course and always in great shape. Facilities are very nice also. Mr. Bond, we're always looking for extras to join us, so I'll post on here next time we play there.

Sounds about like I expected, thanks for the feedback. Would love to hear more about the members (young, old, families, golfers vs social). I'm planning to check it out myself soon too.

I've played there a bunch. It's basically like a nicer version of South Shore. Maintained fairly well, but boring residential layout. Clubhouse has improved greatly over the years. My 30 year old buddy who joined said there aren't too many guys there his age to play with, so he just plays in the men's league.

Yes - I believe ClubCorp golf members get two complimentary greens fees per month at Bay Oaks.

This doesn't help the OP, but my dad was an original member there when it opened (before club Corp owned it) and I believe won the first two club championships. I haven't been there in 20+ years, but have lots of fond memories riding my bike there to hit balls or hang out at the pool.

I recall him leaving when club Corp took over because things went downhill so glad to hear thing are going well these days.

But you have to be a certain membership level in clubcorp. I was a young executive member and I could not get on that course nor The Woodlands Country Club

A buddy used to be the Super there. Ag. He's since moved to a different course. I played it a few times with him and really enjoyed the course.

Mr. Bond - it sounds like you used to be ClubCorp and you are not now? Can I ask what made you change?

Absolutely. It just got way too expensive. I was paying $400+ a month on the young executive program. The food minimums and extra fees just got out of hand. Didn't feel the value to myself personally

Very familiar with BOCC... highly under-rated layout with typically good conditions. At one time was rated one of the most difficult courses in Houston with #6 rated as the hardest #6 hole in Houston. The membership is second to none, everyone ther is extremely fun and nice. I never got bored with the layout, if I were to join this side of town it gets my vote.

Want to revisit.

Anyone know the monthly fees here? Is it more expensive than magnolia or south shore?

Not sure on dues, but it's Been in terrible shape since their last super left. They've recently lost two of their greens.

I've played it a couple times and always in great shape. Buddy played it during spring break and left after 7 hole. The pic above is actually one of the better looking greens

Correct. Have to be a OneMember. I think it works for weekdays only.

I am looking at joining Bay Oaks. I was quoted $5k initiation and $755/month. The initiation seems reasonable to me but the monthly dues seem high for a young executive member. It is a good course but I don't think it is a premier course in the Houston area. Is $700-800/month the going rate these days for young executive members?

Seems high if the golf portion of the membership is all you're getting out of it. Opposite side of houston, but blackhorse is a nice track and it's around 450 a month dues.

But it's also a daily fee course as well.

If I'm joining a club it's to get away from gen pop. Seems pointless to join a club that also allows daily fee players.

To answer the question...Yeah that seems pretty steep.

What is included for this $755? Is it unlimited golf, or do you still have to pay something each round? Can you play other courses, or just bay oaks? I don't know much about this, if you couldn't tell.

It is your typical fully private country club with unlimited golf. ~$20 cart fee would be the only fee.
AustinCountyAg
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Does the $800 a month include F&B minimums? Either way that price plus cart fees seems pretty damn steep for bay oaks. It's a good course but not worth that price imo

But Bay Oaks is THE high end course in the area. There is nothing else that is close by that compares. Thinking of private club options in that area. BO, Southshore are it for east of 45 and south of the beltway all the way to Galveston. The next closest is Golfcrest on Pearland - which is a nice option, but it's a haul from CL now.
What do you boys want for breakfast BBQ ?.....OK Chili.
