What a golf course?

Golf courses are killing it right now. Play is up like 70% over the past few months. Hell you can't find a push cart anywhere.

It's one of the only things that wasn't/isn't shut down and one of the few things you can do safely.

Maybe a different situation for a country club resort type place but at this point I'm not convinced what OP sees is even a golf course.

Given the time to find a site, design, build and grow in a golf course I'm not sure I'd make that investment based on the past few months.

They may be killing it now but they were getting killed for last several years. Courses were closing. Not many new courses going on when that happened and doubt anyone was going to jump up and act quick enough just bc of the bump in play bc of covid

Let's all become investors and build our own course for players. If we all took our initiation fee and monthly payments, we could easily pay the loan!! Club champion becomes CEO for the year! Any golf construction guys out there? I have a superintendent thats a friend. A club pro friend that is awesome! He also coaches college golf! We just need a name that will get noticed!! Structure it just like the Greenway Packers fans! Any thoughts?

What do you think it would take to build something nice? $50 MM? Around $20MM for the course and the rest maybe $30MM for the land, building, maintenance facilities, etc? How much are you in for? Unless one or two of the principals could personally guarantee a loan of $30MM or so I can't imagine a lender touching it. But go for it.

The Falls has been purchased and is nearly completed renovation, course and facilities. Will be quite the little golf resort.

Exactly!! I knew the answer just wanted someone else to say it!! So why can't another course that's fallen under hard times be our little golf resort??

What is the last "New" course to open up in Houston?

Let's not count the Blaketree --> Bluejack conversion.

Newest course that pops to my mind in the Tournament Course at Redstone/GCOH.

There's not been a lot built in the last 20 years in Houston.

Meadowbrook or Cinco Ranch?

Both of my "home" courses closed over the past couple years, SFA and River Ridge

A couple of years ago I heard rumblings about a Coore & Crenshaw project in N. Houston area. However, it has been radio silent since then.

It will be part of a Caldwell Co land development. Fred Caldwell is a great Aggie -Played defensive end for RC. The land owner (Wilkerson) sold the development acreage and kept the portion near the river to build a course.
Really hard to get a good return on a course, but that's what he wanted to do with his money...

Houston Oaks was a pretty thorough renovation, similar to Bluejack.

Grand Pines is a pretty good mention and shows that there hasn't been anything new on the Houston golf scene in close to 15+ years.

I was thinking last night an the "private half" of Houston National - I think it's called Sterling or something like that - is pretty recent as well.
