I was supposed to play in a golf tournament yesterday put on by a local Twin Peaks benefiting the Tunnels To Towers foundation. I was given other plans by Dallas County however - had jury duty on Tuesday and was picked for a jury.

Texted my buddy to see how the tournament went, and he said some clowns posted a 39, which was 11 strokes lower than the second place team. He said everyone was screaming "BS" when they were called up, and they challenged anyone to play them for $1,000 a hole. They did have mulligans and string (stupidest thing ever in my opinion) that you could buy, but seriously ?!? Posting a -36 means you eagle every hole and by default ace every par 3 - a 39 is only 3 strokes off that.

I know this topic has been discussed many times, but I can't remember every hearing a posted score that low. What kind of ******bag do you have to be to post a score like that, especially in a charity tournament ?

Just start posting 18s and do a raffle

That's the solution to scramble cheats

Probably the same kind of ******bag you have to be to get worked up over what scores are posted in a scramble.

The thing about mulligans and string is you can't audit it. Teams will only use a mulligan if they make the putt or they'll just use 36 when they bought two.

End of the day it's for charity. Stop giving big nice prizes for first and you'll cut back on cheating. You'll still get vanity cheaters but not as bad.

I feel your pain, I played in a 4 man Florida scramble last week and the winning team all turned in 30 handicaps and shot a gross score of 65! I forget what their net score was but just another bunch of sandbaggers on an ego trip!

Every Scramble that is organized, has plenty of people or could easily get 22 Volunteers. 1 for every par 4 and par 3 and 2 for par 5's.

Let every one know that the scores will be kept by the folks on the course.

String must go. String is just dumb, everything is a 1 putt...

Score keeper gives 2 numbers every hole. Number of swings over 4 on each shot. And the score. You come up with an extra swing, Your done.

Everyone turns in a 48, its just not possible, Someone still has to hit the shot. I have been in some crazy rounds where everything falls, and every shot is almost perfect, your in the 54 58 range. Not 48. Assuming a 6800 yard course. Its just not possible...

39, I would have badgered the $$$$ out of them, till they left. That crap annoys the wholly crap out of me.

That's just laughable. I think I would have just erased our scorecard and turned in a 38, to see what happened.

Example #543 why I hate playing in scrambles. Especially when I'm on a team who is there to "win". The amount of butt hurt is unreal. Not to mention mulligans, free drop in middles of fairway, drives out of a cannon, etc. it makes it impossible to be "fair".

If I do play in a scramble I make it clear I'm not there to win and I don't give two ****s about playing well that day.

no ***** If I'm playing a scramble I'm drinking beer, smoking cigars, and hoping a teammate center cuts the fairway so I can try to Happy Gilmore a drive or three.

When you are playing in a charity scramble, you have to ignore players like this, and just remember where the money is going. I've never played in a charity tourney that didn't have bs scores.

When Tony Barone used to put his gold tournament on at Pebble Creek, you could buy a book of mulligans, strings and Throws. Unlimited Beer and BBQ. Probably not an honest score on the course.

Just quit giving prizes to 1st

A decent scramble I play in for our local HS (the only scramble I play in ever) gives prizes out randomly.

Post whatever score you want basically. Then everyone is "placed" (ties just randomly get a ranking) then they raffle prizes. First prize goes to (draw a number) team 7. Team 7 gets first pick of the prizes. And it goes on like this untilnorozes are done.

By far the best way to do a charity scramble

Too many jeans wearing "golfers" with "winning" trophies of scrambles behind their "desks"

I stopped paying to play in scrambles a long time ago.

It's a Charity Golf Tournament!!!
The Best Golf Team Never Wins!!
Give our team a few cases of Shiner Bock long necks and we will be Happy!! Might even get drunk enough to shoot -36 under par!! Hole in one on a par 5 kind of scoring with all the strings attached!!

Go play in 2 man Best Ball, Alternate Shot formats if you want good competition with a better chance of less cheating.

It makes every putt good! If your putt is 3 inches short your supposed to cut 3 inches off the 2 foot string then you count the putt as good as if you made it.

Nobody has scissors, 2 feet becomes 50.

Putting no longer matters…. On green 1 putt…

People who cheat in a scramble make me laugh. Like you really care that much about "winning"? It is suppose to be fun, a reason to drink way too much on a weekday, and miss an afternoon of work.

But if you are going to give out prizes, use a little common sense on the scoring. If someone turns in a 39, rip up the scorecard and tell them to have a nice day. I don't care if you have a team of Rory, Rahm, Thomas, and Morikawa, it's not possible to shoot a 39.

I am suspect of teams that turn in -18 and anything lower than that shouldn't be counted for any prizes.
