What does it matter, there are plenty of professional and nonprofessional televised sports with participants wearing shorts, biking shorts, swimsuits...

What's the big ****ing deal. Would you wear long pants to golf in July heat? What possible good reasons are there for the PGAT golfers to wear long pants? Dont they wear shorts for the practice round?

This is step one to getting a major in Texas.

I remember years ago David Duvall was fined for wearing his hat backwards in a practice round....A FREAKING PRACTICE ROUND.

Little anecdote, daughter and I have basically played all of our lives, wife just started in June last year. 1st impression from the ole ball and chain? "Wow I always thought golf was so stuffy stick up the butt pastime and I come out here and see a bunch of normal folks having drinks and playing music while enjoying a round. My preconceptions were so wrong"

Get with it PGAT, let the guys have fun and be comfortable!

Would them being pants make it more enjoyable for you to watch? I don't get the reasoning?

I know I'm probably in the minority, but I think the pants requirement should stay. The golf pants nowadays aren't like old school khakis. They are very flexible and breathable. The pants are the symbol that golf is still the gentleman's game. Will it hurt my feelings if they lift the requirement - no, but just my preference.

Do you always wear golf pants when you golf and since it's gentlemens game, do you oppose women playing golf?

None of what they do has to do with what we do. Why is making the pros more comfortable important?

It would be like saying MLB players should be able to wear a light breathable hat if they wanted instead of a hot wool one.

What about when some knucklehead wears some John Stockton nutter shorts?

Willing to allow the shorts on tour if we simultaneously ban joggers.

Shorts M-F would be fine but I'd prefer to see them in pants on Sat/Sun

So golf is gentlemens game for the pros who you think should wear long pants and not allow shorts but it doesn't apply to you??? Where's the logic in this??

So it's not gentlemens game when you play...

Because pros are people too... And they deserve to be comfortable?? Enough that PGAT allows them to wear shorts during practice and proam. They have allowed mesh cap for spring training in the MLB haven't they?

So you agree then. Shorts are fine during practice round like a mesh hat is during spring training. And pants during the real rounds like real hats during the season.

Conflating this dudes weekend round of hacking and the PGAT…definitely the same thing.

Next thing you know he'll be suggesting MLB should wear pants despite his co-ed softball team wearing shorts.

For the record, I think they should all have to wear knickers.

It's the progression.

Golf was wool knickers, dress shirt and tie but the pros said hell with it and went to polyester bellbottoms and leisure collar short sleeves in plaid. LIV has gone to shorts and it seems pros enjoy it. I don't watch golf on TV except some majors and the Ryder Cup nor do I think golf is gentlemenly today. With music blaring and half the kids are more interested in drinking than golf.

Definitely don't watch MLB nor care what hat they wear. Not sure Mesh hat would protect the scalp from the sun so I'd rather wear wool. Then again I'm not bald either.

As someone who watched the tour events weekly, I can tell you that their enjoyment is a low priority

And the "gentleman's game" idea has no place in professional golf. When there's millions on the line and gambling is involved, that notion needs to be removed

Instead of watching TV, go out and play more golf in shorts...and you will post on F GOLF thread less.... or more.

I'm in favor of letting them wear shorts. But I also think the pairing of a nice golf shirt, slacks, and then a baseball style cap looks ridiculous.

Count me as one who prefers they stay wearing pants. Nothing wrong with the professional look.
