Totally and 100% wrong.

They are selling 9 holes to the county and renovating the new 18. Already started the construction of the new holes opening in 8 months.

It's a flood control issue. They had 27 holes and they agreed with the flood control district to have them acquire the part of the golf course on one side of longwood trace with 7 holes. The course will be redone with 18 holes holes only with all the holes on the same side. The other side will be used for flood control.

They're sinking $10MM into the course to completely redo it and word is it will be one of the best layouts in Houston when it's finished.

Well that's exciting. I guess he took the partial sale and closing for renovation as closing for good.

Awesome to hear.

It was always such a fun layout and well conditioned in the late 90's. Began fading in the early 2000's when AGC was in control.

Always had the best cart girls as well.

We played last Friday on Palm and Post and we observed they had marked out the new greens for 1, 2, and 3 on pine, and were moving large amounts of earth to rebuild the greens.

I think the golf course renovation will move quickly. I think the county flood control project might be a while before it starts.

I lived there from 94-98 and was there when the original 18 opened. IMO they ruined the place when they added the Palmetto 9. The original 18 WAS ALREADY one of the best layouts in the area. I drove through there last week and saw they had #1 Pine torn up and were rebuilding the green, I'm assuming they're doing that entire side. When they get it finished, I'd definitely go back and play that tract.

They've made exactly zero progress on the flood control project at Raveneaux

True story. I read somewhere (maybe even here?) the deal was supposed to be a land swap with the club receiving land located closer to Champion Forest Drive, where they were going to build additional holes and retain a golf course in the area. But that fell through when HCFCD decided in the 25th hour the land they were receiving had less value than was supposedly agreed upon.

Hence, the club is now gone and nothing has been done on any of the associated tracts. Business as usual...

Cypress Lakes is crazy busy with all the Longwood traffic, no room on the range at least not the front one. All the Longwood memberships transferred over until they are up and running again.

Where is Cypress Lakes?

I just started golfing regularly and many that I went to when I was younger are gone.

I'm in the Klein area now and the only options close are Windrose and Gleanloch

290 & Cypress Rosehill/Fry

I don't care for it at all. From Klein, you're better off driving to Cypresswood-Traditions, High Meadow Ranch, Augusta Pines, Tour 18, or Blackhorse if you want to get away from Gleann and Windrose.

Didn't cy lakes get bought by a developer and will be closing in the near future? Was surprised to see longwood was moving everyone over to cy lakes when I'd been hearing cy lakes is closing soon.

That was an internet rumor that grew legs and ran off into the sunset.

It was not sold nor is it going to be sold.

The old…..I heard it on the internet, so it must be true kind of thing.

The cypress lakes rumor was pretty big. I live close by. They had a residential development plan "in place" for the area where the golf course is. I will believe it when I see it. There are some pretty big and nice homes that have been built along and near the course. I'd like to hear that conversation, "sorry. You thought you were going to live by a golf course but we decided to build homes on the land where the golf course sits".

Speaking of golf course redevelopment.

May Old Orchard RIP

Edit to add. Played it in the last day and was in one of the last groups to finish. The sun setting through the trees was breathtaking. Went home with that flag pin.
I don’t say this in a braggedocious way. But it’s true. I’ve been right about everything.

Old Orchard was absolutely an awesome place. Hated when that one shut down. Always worth the drive from the other side of town.

That's good to know. I live right down the road enjoy playing out there. Cypress needs more courses not less.

The one thing you can count on is lawsuits. Happened at Raveneaux and Longwood. At Longwood, the lawsuit was settled when the homeowners were given an amount of money to compensate for the "perceived" loss of value in their home no longer being on a golf course.

So if you're a private developer, you would have to take into account the cost of lawsuits/lawyers as well as the cost to settle with the homeowners. Makes the land awfully expensive.

Cy Lakes is closing in December, not sure if that's public knowledge. Will be a housing development.

Are there that many people wiling t pay $125 to play Blackhorse?

Good for them if they're getting it, but what they charge is asinine.

The west side of town is a barren wasteland for public golf,

Cinco charges over $100 on the weekend because they can.

tried there a couple of weeks ago. I got rained out but I tell ya, the first 4 holes were in absolute crap shape. I enjoy the course, used to play it weekly, but it needs work in a big way.

I haven't thought of Longwood in 20 years. It used to be in the regular rotation. Had one of my best scores on a solid golf course there (80), as opposed to the 77 at Bryan Muni and 79 at Clear Creek.

Yep. Just heard the same. I'm pissed bc my house backs up almost to the course. It wasn't the greatest track around but it sure was great for the neighborhood
