Speaking of campus course, how many of y'all have sliced or pull hooked a drive into traffic on George Bush? I remember saying many prayers before those tee shots.

We did that quite often at Bryan Muni back in the day. I don't remember which hole it was but it was pretty close to the road.

I believe it was number 10 if I remember correctly

Played it yesterday. Fairways are great but the greens were decimated by the recent freeze. It will take them quite a long time to recover.

Yeah the greens are just awful except 2&12. Course is wet as always. Not worth the price at all right now

Your characterization is correct, but I only paid 40 bucks which included a cart. It's worth that money imo. Munies in Austin are only slightly cheaper, and that's only if you walk.

Yeah that one hole runs along the road. At the time I was in school I embraced my slice and lined up over the road - which was named Jersey back then. Well.... it went dead straight once and bounded down Jersey. Kinda like that scene in Tin Cup but unintentional. Thankfully it did not hit any cars.

I wonder why they have so many issues with freezes. All the greens in Austin are fine and we had it much worse.

I dont know about Austin courses but campus course being wide open with no blockage from the north wind will do it. Add that with 180 rounds a day and trying to keep a green speed above 10 doesn't help.

This is strange to me that we while Texas A&M have such a strong turfgrass department, yet the on campus golf course has this issue so often, while Austin courses don't face this issue. I've not played the course since the remodel, but recall that it was pretty impressive what was done back in 2012-2013, at least partially to showcase the turfgrass department.

Does anyone else feel that this presents a real life Aggie joke to outsiders? We are motivated to look and see that there is nuance such as an outside mgmt team that doesn't utilize the turfgrass department, but others won't.

I suspect it isn't about the quality of the grass -- it is about the terrain, the soil, and the budget.

It is a college municipal track.

FWIW, the starter told me that they were prepared for the first freeze. Apparently they wet the heck out of the greens when they know a freeze is coming. This initial layer of ice protects the greens so the subsequent air doesn't kill the grass. They weren't prepared for the next freeze and the greens were dry, which killed the grass. Not sure if this is factually accurate but it's what the starter told me.

I don't have super high expectations for the campus course, but I was very impressed with it when I played there last June. Unfortunately someone had vandalized the course a few weeks before with herbicide, but it has long since recovered from that.

Every other course in the BCS area fared well, relatively speaking. The course is better since renovating obviously, but it's not really anything special. The "slick greens" that didn't hold approach shots unless you were able to spin the ball better than most was the allure to some early on. However, the layout, although nostalgic to those of us who played the old course, isn't memorable. It's a vanilla course, except for maybe hole 8. Not sure I could dub any other hole their signature hole.

Not sure if true but I have heard that the school and course management do not collaborate on turf grass management. There is no reason to not do so. Driving range has not had grass in forever.

I miss the old days when I could but 300+ drives in the summer because the fairways were like concrete.
