I thought he was going to remain an Am for a few more months but PGA app doesn't say he's an Am

If he wants to get paid between now and then for on course performance he will turn pro

He already said he is turning pro. He is competing in the Memorial, US Open, Travelers and John Deere for sure. Probably KFT tourneys in between if he doesn't get any more exemptions. I think he wants to start earning money and his tour card.

EDIT:Also said he will be in RBC Canadian next week

My understanding was that the amateur US and British open spots would still be honored even if he turned pro.

Only the US Open.

Top player in the PGA Tour University (Tech's Ludvig Aberg) gets status on the PGA tour. Next 4 (Bennett is 5) get Korn Ferry status.

Bennet needs to "make hay while the sun shines" and take advantage of the PGA exemptions in front of him this year to try and get status on the PGA tour. Staying an amateur through the Open would hinder that.
