Anyone here carry a driving iron? I no longer carry a hybrid because I hit my 4I well enough and now I'm entertaining replacing my 3W with a driving iron. I can cover most par 5s with Driver/4I and only use my 3W when driver is too much off the tee. My 3W is about 13 year old Cleveland Launcher that I no longer hit with confidence which is why I'm thinking going with the driving iron to bridge the gap between driver and 4I off the tee.

I have the Srixon ZX MK. Use it off the tee probably 4-5 times per round depending on what tees I'm playing. I usually adjust tees to whomever I'm playing with. Anything 6400 and lower, I'm using the driving iron pretty often.

I've carried one for 5 years or so.

Been through a bunch.


Currently carrying a 2021 Titleist T200 3 Iron with a PX LZ 6.0 shaft. I hit it about 220-230.

Rotate it with a PXG Gen 5 18* -- which I maybe hit 5 yards further. The PXG feels better, but is more prone to going left, which sort of defeats the purpose.

P790 2i hit it long and straight. I don't hit driver often with it in the bag.

Titleist U505 2i here. I love it. My go-to when i need to find a fairway off the tee, it's (nearly) automatic.

I picked up the P790 2i a few years ago when everyone was playing it at the Open. Long, forgiving, tight dispersion. I carry driver, 2-PW, GW, SW, LW.

Nope it was an addition to my '16 AP2s. Our course isn't the longest, but it's tight. At the time id been hitting my 3i off the tee pretty consistently, trading tighter dispersion for distance, then thought (a la spinal tap): what if I could have "one more"...

I've got a Ping G425 2 iron that goes in and out of the bag

I've got a TM UDI … I'm a 7 index and still can't hit that thing consistently. Not a huge fan. The good shots are great - penetrating into the wind, etc, but the bad shots are much worse than a hybrid would be.

P790 2i as well. Love it. Recently switched to P-770 irons from Adams MB2 blades. Still trying to figure out distances. Can really catch some screamers. Same goes for 2i.

Just picked up a titliest u505 1 iron
6.5 Hzrdus shaft.
Will use it exclusively off the tee.

3iron I'm getting 230 -240 off the tee depending on roll.

Hoping to get 240-250 air with some roll out to about 260-265 with this thing

3wood recently has just turned into a massive hook machine so it was relegated to the closet.

I have a 3wood and 3 iron that's a p-790 driving iron. Irons just suit my eye better. I have bought hybrids and 5 woods over the years, but I always end up back in the driving iron.

I did run a 2 iron instead of 3 wood for awhile, but I got fit into a 3 wood that just gives me a different shot. It's hard to gap a 2 and 3 iron, and the 3 wood I only hit when the lie is perfect.

Thought about trying to find a 5 wood or strong 7 wood and ditch the 3 iron but afraid those will just turn into hook machines as well.

4 hybrids were always hook machines for me. I don't know what it is about the 3 iron, but I am just infinitely more accurate with it.

5W is one of the easier clubs to hit IMO. Recommend you hit one if you haven't already.

I carry and 3W and a 5W but have considered replacing them with a 4W and a 4H.
