I didn't realize TGC producers had so much influence. I guess times have changed.
I sure didn't have much pull during for my 5 years as a producer there ...
If the talent of Chamblee and Lynch call the shots that's even a worse indictment of how the network is run.
Talent has a lot of pull. Management had more before the NBC merger. The producers had a lot of content control.
That makes complete sense as a simple observer. Something definitely changed.
It 100% changed when NBC Sports bought the Golf Channel.
TGC was a small, self-contained company, with everyone working out of a large office in Orlando. The management of the company officed in the "green carpet" area of the building. (Fun fact: Arnold Palmer had an office there even after he was no longer part of TGC)
That small group (15 or so) of TGC management made all major TGC decisions, including talent and programming decisions.
When NBC took over, they scattered TGC employees throughout the country, and ran things from NBC headquarters. Management actually had less of a say in things as far as TGC, because management had more responsibility than just TGC. So talent started to have more say in content.
IMO ... TGC lost its identity when NBC bought it. It's never been the same.
One day at a time.
