Wow that's a trip of a lifetime ! Definitely have SW Ireland on my bucket list. Was thinking Carne might win out just because it's a little rough with massive dunes. Thanks for sharing your trip with us !

Today was the last round. The eleventh in as many days. We played this morning at Dooks.

Very local feel. Quaint. Not very long. Really pretty views and nice to be out there.

We went sans caddies which probably cost us some strokes. A couple of holes had some doglegs where we couldn't see where we were going and had to make some guesses.

Overall the course was very playable. And an easy walk. Mountains and the water all around.

I thought the golf was a little forgettable. Nothing wrong with it, but felt like a really solid muni.

We had a little contest going where we all put a buck into the pot when anyone got a birdie and the last one to make a birdie kept it all. I made a nice bird on 15 from the rough and looked like I might be good. Freakin girlgolfer couldn't lag to save her life the whole time we've been here but I'll be dammed if she didn't make her best putt of the trip on 16 to take the money.

A fantastic trip. Super glad to be heading home, though. I'll post some comments, additional thoughts, and lessons leaned. Here are my final rankings:

1. Lahinch
2. Carne
3. Portmarnock
4. Ballybunion
5. Tralee
====================
6. County Sligo
7. The Island
8. Dooks
9. European Club

For those playing Lahinch, there is an awesome little restaurant in Ennistimon, 4 km away called Foodies Korner. The prices were also about the cheapest I've seen in my visits to Ireland (I have family in the area).

I've only had breakfast there, but it was awesome. I imagine everything else is as well.

I can't argue with your ranking......everything is subjective!

Mine's a little different. The only course on your list that I haven't played is Carne.

1. Ballybunion
2. Lahinch
3. Portmarnock
4. Tralee
5. County Sligo
6. European Club
7. The Island
8. Dooks

A few courses that I have played that are qualified to be on this list are Adare Manor, Dromoland Castle, Waterville, Mount Juliet, Doonbeg, County Louth, Old Head and Druid's Glen.

As I have mentioned several times, I lived in Scotland for six years and got to play a lot of really good courses there and down in England as well. If you told me that you'll drop me on an island and can play as much golf as you want, but you can't leave the island, I would pick Ireland. It's great golf courses, friendly people and just a beautiful place to be!

Super bummed we couldn't get on at Waterville. They have their member guest this week and nothing available.

Agree on loving Ireland. A slightly more laid back version of Scots but with enough of that British sense of propriety still engrained. The country is totally beautiful. Very rural. I loved driving around and seeing all the small farms everywhere.

Haven't played all on this list either but of those I have, absolutely agree with Ballybunion and Lahinch at 1-2. Agree its all subjective and much depends on how you strike it that day. I had a magical day at Bally and struggled in tough weather at Lahinch, but think I would rank them the same regardless. To me, the stretch from about 7 all the way to the finish at Ballybunion is just amazing in every respect. Routing, difficulty, scenery, etc. Thanks for bringing me back with your posts, Bagger.

Couldn't get on Waterville either. Played Dooks. Had the best caddie. There maybe better designed courses, more historic, more manicured…but with the caddie, the hospitality, and the playability of this course, it was a course we would play again.
