Searching for our annual trip destination this year, and looking for recommendations. 8 total guys, 6 of whom are in the DFW area. The others are in Houston and Bella Vista, Arkansas. Looking for something that's within driving distance for the majority of the group. We did Hot Springs last year and had a great trip, so we are wrestling between running that back or doing something different. Would probably prefer a place with more than one course to choose from, as we likely will play at least three rounds.

Any recommendations or insight on the Hill Country? Horseshoe Bay?

4 of us do Horsehoe Bay every year (Dec) and love it. The 3 public courses are fun and usually in pretty good shape. We don't typically get into much at night so dinner on site then maybe a few drinks at the bar(s) is enough for us. The shuttles and overall layout make it very convenient. The 4 of us usually take a suite and, for what you get in the unlimited golf package, the value is really hard to beat.

What do you consider driving distance? Big Cedar Lodge is maybe a couple hours more than Hot Springs, but has 3 fantastic championship courses plus a couple short courses.
Horseshoe Bay is good not great. If you want something in central Texas, take a look at Barton Creek…it's close to Austin but not in Austin.

The Cliffs on Possum Kingdom Lake, Pine Dunes in Frankston are 2 of my favorite courses in the state but you would need to find some courses to go with them if you really want 3 different courses.

Was gonna say Big Cedar as well. It may be too late to get 8 guys on property, and it's big $$$, but you could probably find a nice house on Table Rock and book public tee Times in the 30 day window.

Probly our first choice was Big Cedar but may save it for next year. We are going in April and a lot of the rooms and tee times are already booked.

You could save money on the drive/flights and do fields ranch. 2 good courses. The Omni is nice and there is a lot of fun stuff to do with the par 3, the putting and the bars.

Plus when you are tired at the end of the trip your travel home is short

Howdy!

If you are still considering options, I would love to help you out at Horseshoe Bay (depending on dates of course). "
Was able to hook up a few others recently during the off season. Happy to look at dates for you.

"Cal (9-3) vs. Texas A&M (9-3). On the list of rare sights in Southern California, a team running the option -- as the Aggies like to do with QB Stephen McGee -- ranks right up there with real breasts and 12 inches of snow." Stewart Mandel CNNSI

horseshoe bay is ok not amazing, def not worth driving from Arkansas for the one guy. barton creek the same, and I live down the street from it and play it all the time. nothing else in the Austin hill country area worth mentioning if you want an all in golf experience. big cedar is the pebble beach/whistling/pinehurst of this part of the country. if you can swing the cost and haven't been, you are missing out. It's not insane expensive, but not cheap at all.

could consider San Antonio and stay at TPC San Antonio and play a couple other courses locally or have a club pro set up at some of the private in the area. they have two courses.

I personally like Barton Creek much more than TPC San Antonio.

We decided to book an AirBNB in San Antonio and just play some of the nicer publics. Thanks everyone for the input!
