Looking for some input here. Should the fitting fee be applied to equipment purchase?

My wife bought me a $100 putter fitting from the local golf store.

Went in and did a 30 min fitting and walked out paying full price for a $450 putter. She tells me the $100 fee was supposed to go towards the putter cost, which was my assumption as well.

What is y'all's experience? Does the fitting fee usually go towards the clubs at a golf store?

Mine was applied. $100 for a putter fitting sounds ludicrous. I got an entire bag for $150 that was then applied. 2 sessions with about 2.5 hours worth of attention. That was five years ago, but still.

Edit to add I checked the place I got fit. Now it is $75 for putter so maybe $100 isn't as crazy as I thought, but if you drop $450 on a putter and they don't give you if least some sort of credit, I'd be pretty mad.

In my experience yes, the fee always went towards the purchase. That's usually the incentive to get you to buy something. Where was the fitting?

The fittings I've gotten it didn't go towards the purchase. It was clubs plus fee. That was at Club Champion and MK Golf (local place in SA).

Same (Stripe Show). I paid for the bag fitting and then had the option to buy from them or I could take the specs and hunt on my own, used or otherwise. Either way the fitting didn't go towards the clubs.

Who do yall recommend for a putter fitting in the BCS area or even in Houston

Nick at Club Champion in Houston (I-10 West & Gessner) is fantastic.

There are "different" than Club Champion fittings (this is probably for the regular guy).

Club Champion has its place. That being said....

Different example, not putters:

There are qualified Master Fitters at places like Edwin Watts (ex: Houston) that can take the time to fit you either to a brand you want with a specific shaft (irons/woods), or go completely club agnostic putting you in a club/shaft combo that uses the stock shaft options (at no additional cost to you from off shelf and they can be many), or tune a shaft to a club just for you (extra). If you find a head/shaft combo that is "stock" to a brand, it is no more cost than buying off the shelf, typically except for grip specifics. They will order what you need from the manufacturer, you just have to wait a couple weeks. Even with lie and loft adjustments. Why not? at off the shelf prices.

You can definitely use Club Champion. Hear it is a great experience, but you pay for the fitting in a few ways. Upfront for the specs to go buy elsewhere, or you can pay for special shafts in heads and that can turn your clubs from a stock fitting (and special can be done here as well) at Edwin Watts in Houston, or spend a whole lot more buying a custom set from Club Champion.

Obviously, if you are quite accomplished, Club Champion may make a lot of sense, dialing in specifics to a fine tune. For a high, mid, mid-low, or perhaps low handicap player, why by a set off the shelf when someplace like Edwin Watts with Master Fitters on staff can put one into a set of irons/woods/Driver utilizing factory available (and others) shafts at no additional cost over stock that best fit them, rather than buying something off the rack and working themselves into it.

I thought I was a buy off the rack guy based on past history many years ago. Was not a bad player back in the day before a long, long hiatus. Was going to buy off the rack, but took advantage of the "free" fitting sessions at Edwin Watts (Houston) to see if it was worth it. Will probably never buy another iron set or driver without it again. Went club agnostic, and ended up with the best fit of clubs for my game I ever would have thought of.

This was not a putter. It was a bag full. No fitting fee. Even asked if a tip was traditional, as I was going to do so after two sessions. He said he would not take one if offered, because of the bag of clubs purchased. A putter fitting may warrant one. Dont know about a putter "fitting".

Make sure wherever you go has a SAM puttlab for the fitting. I like Impact Precision up in Spring off 45.

If I remember right and you bought a LAB putter then it does t apply. But I could be wrong

Trevor Sauntry at Impact Precision Golf in Spring is the only answer. Not BCS but he and his team are the best around. They have a tour truck and are the master fitters for the world long drive

I don't have experience with Impact Precision, but according to their website a full bag fitting is $350 (3.5 hour process of fine tuning your entire set) and $100 for a putter fitting (SAM Putt Lab to help determine the proper head style, toe hang, offset, lie angle, loft, length, grip style and weight).


So if your $100 putting fitting was more of a here try this kind of thing, that might have been a bit expensive. Especially if it didn't apply to the purchase.

I did a driver fitting from Impact years ago. Just went with the shaft and kept my old head and they waived the fitting fee since I bought it through them.

Yeah never have paid a fitting fee at Impact as long as I purchased from them.
