Never B*TCH about having to hit off mats again !!!

Friend of mine is the head of the Golf Course Maintenance at the PGA Frisco…

He and I had been working on a proprietary turf mat design that ACCURATELY reacted like grass and soil when you hit down and through with FW woods, hybrids, irons, and wedges……

What we designed worked LIKE A FREAKIN' CHARM…
Perfect with every club… True "grass-like" down and through performance !!!

However, there was (as there always is) a pretty significant hurdle…

The cost to actually build anything cost-effectively (beyond our prototype) was a definite deal-breaker…

Then it dawned on me… Why not take the agronomy "breakthrough" we understood, and try and develop a cheap "implement" that could create the same "foundation" that real grass gives you…

When your ball rests on the fairway, it sits on about 1/16-1/8" of grass… Below that is about 1/8-1/4" of root and soil "combo", and then you get into sheer soil..

The grass gives virtually ZERO resistance to your clubhead, the root/soil strata gives more resistance, and, finally, the soil gives more significant resistance/bounce or "thud"…

An artificial mat (no matter how fabulous it is) reacts very similar to the root/soil strata and the actual soil strata… There is no "grass-like" strata…

By elevating your ball 1/16-1/8 " ABOVE the mat, you can achieve the ZERO resistance strata feel of actual grass…

Take a 1/8" thick -3/8" rubber hose washer and use it to "tee" the ball…

You will be able to hit down and through the ball, with legit "grass-like" resistance…

It would be wise to tie a ribbon to the front of the washer (away from the strike) in order to locate the washer after you hit it…

Each washer should last months… You'll NEVER b*tch about hitting off mats again…

You'll can thank me later…

That's a lot of words, and for that reason, I'm out.

Get you a fiberbuilt grass series.

Or do what people have been doing for years. Take the very top of a tee and push into the turf. A little to give just a tiny bit of height and hold the ball still

I've seen old codgers use a small coin too

There have been a bunch of these weird rambling posts that are kinda sales posts, just not sales posts. And they are not from rookies either. Is this some new bot hack?

Fiberbuilt grass series is what I have and I can hit down easily but it doesn't punish fat shots as real turf would. But definitely saves the joints. Fiberbuilts player preferred feels almost exactly like a fairway.

Are your fairways cut at green height where you play?

Personally, I love the false sense of security/confidence that hitting off mats gives me before a round

Never hit a fat shot again. Use a mat all the time.

It's actually kind of interesting. If I'm understanding this correctly:

When you're in the fairway, you've got grass, followed by a soil/root mix that is far denser, followed by the soil itself that is the densest of all.

When you hit off a mat, you're essentially sitting on the soil/root mix with the top of the mat, but not getting the benefit of the elevation of the ball in the grass. So if you try and hit down and through the ball, you're going to be bashing your hands into the turf to strike the ball, which isn't akin to hitting down and through the ball in the grass before you get there.

So instead of hitting off the mat or buying an expensive simulation with grass, he's saying you can get the same effect hitting it off a cheap rubber washer that's a 1/4" thick. You can hit down on it before you go into the ground instead of just going into the ground immediately.

Might be worth giving it a shot for $8
