Never B*TCH about having to hit off mats again !!!
Friend of mine is the head of the Golf Course Maintenance at the PGA Frisco…
He and I had been working on a proprietary turf mat design that ACCURATELY reacted like grass and soil when you hit down and through with FW woods, hybrids, irons, and wedges……
What we designed worked LIKE A FREAKIN' CHARM…
Perfect with every club… True "grass-like" down and through performance !!!
However, there was (as there always is) a pretty significant hurdle…
The cost to actually build anything cost-effectively (beyond our prototype) was a definite deal-breaker…
Then it dawned on me… Why not take the agronomy "breakthrough" we understood, and try and develop a cheap "implement" that could create the same "foundation" that real grass gives you…
When your ball rests on the fairway, it sits on about 1/16-1/8" of grass… Below that is about 1/8-1/4" of root and soil "combo", and then you get into sheer soil..
The grass gives virtually ZERO resistance to your clubhead, the root/soil strata gives more resistance, and, finally, the soil gives more significant resistance/bounce or "thud"…
An artificial mat (no matter how fabulous it is) reacts very similar to the root/soil strata and the actual soil strata… There is no "grass-like" strata…
By elevating your ball 1/16-1/8 " ABOVE the mat, you can achieve the ZERO resistance strata feel of actual grass…
Take a 1/8" thick -3/8" rubber hose washer and use it to "tee" the ball…
You will be able to hit down and through the ball, with legit "grass-like" resistance…
It would be wise to tie a ribbon to the front of the washer (away from the strike) in order to locate the washer after you hit it…
Each washer should last months… You'll NEVER b*tch about hitting off mats again…
You'll can thank me later…
