We walked Pebble yesterday. We hit the weather perfect.

Are we allowed to hate you?

Looks like a great time and chamber of commerce weather.

I know you can probably Google all of this stuff, but what was the process like getting a teatime for pebble and spyglass? Are you staying there or somewhere else? Anything else to do in the area?

Spyglass and Spanish Bay aren't too bad, even if you're not staying at one of the PB Hotels. I'd start working 60-90 days out so that you get the times you want.

Pebble's policy is different (or was the last 2 years) and requires you to call day of if you're not staying at a PB Hotel. I think the pro shop opens at 6, so I'd recommend calling then if you really want to get on. Obviously a lot easier if you're a single or just 2 rather than a full 4.

Spyglass is just an amazing / difficult course. How'd you shoot?

I feel like Spanish Bay never gets talked about as much as the other 2. I think Americans have some weird aversion to links style courses not in the UK.

LOVED Spyglass. Top to bottom I thought it was better than Pebble (although 6-10 on Pebble is totally elite and it has all the history).

I wasn't a big fan of Spanish Bay. It was nice but I didn't think it had much character. It was like they could've made it a really cool links course or they could've made it a cool ultra lush resort course, but instead they tried to do both at once and didn't really pull off either.

For what it's worth they're basically blowing up the whole thing and redoing it in 26-27. Gil Hanse is in charge.

When you read between the lines of the press releases it sounds like Pebble Beach Resorts doesn't think very highly of it.

Last summer I played Pebble twice and both times we got a time for a twosome at Pebble about a week out. This was in August.

Great pics.

The problem with Spanish Bay isn't links style. There are all sorts of massively popular links courses here. It's that they turned a set of real estate that could be a good links course into goofy-ass target golf

If you are not staying at the resort, Pebble has a 24 hour tee time policy. That said, I cheated it by 2 weeks both times I played it. Here's how:

1) Played in May and June. their busy season is Aug to Oct. But the weather was perfect. Their rainy season is Dec-Feb
2) shot for Tues-Thurs
3) called 2 weeks out. The first time was just to confirm the 24 hour policy, but I was friendly and the guy offered on his own offered to check the tee sheet, and if it was looking good, he'd go ahead book me now - which he did. Given that success, I tried it again a few years later. They didn't offer unsolicited like he did, but with a friendly ask of "i'll be on a long flight when it opens (true) and they were super nice to do it before, any chance to just check it?" which they did and booked me.

Only got to play the front nine but it was so sick. My favorite course I played in the area.
