On Thursday’s edition of TexAgs Live, head women's golf coach Gerrod Chadwell joined us in studio to recap the Texas A&M's performance at the Chevron Collegiate earlier this week and highlighted Vanessa Borovilos, who earned her first SEC Golfer of the Week title.

Key notes from Gerrod Chadwell interview

  • We finally got rid of the cold. We had a very cold practice round, but it was nice to compete in some more scoring-conducive conditions. We had a good performance at the Moon Golf Invitational, but there wasn't a lot of time in between to get things done. But man, did we kick it into overdrive that afternoon. That set us up to win a tournament come Tuesday.

  • Vanessa Borovilos’ bogey-free performance is very impressive. No matter who you are or where you are at, for a freshman in our league to do that was amazing. I was fortunate to walk with herand only twice was she in jeopardy of making a mistake. It was a dominant performance. It wasn't a matter of if she was going to win but by how many strokes.

  • We've spent a lot of years at the Tournament Course at Golf Club of Houston. Not only the course but the memories of being up there are near and dear to my heart. The weather turned out great during the Chevron Collegiate this week. The thing I told our girls was that the 36-hole day has been our Achilles heel, but the quarter/semifinal day allows you to punch your ticket to play for the NCAA Championship and the SEC Championship.

  • I don't think it'll be Borovilos’ last accolade. To do that at such an early stage in her collegiate career, we have to help her deal with expectations. She is still learning, and she would say that she left some shots out there. She expects to be great, but she has to manage expectations.

  • I thought this team would get better each week. For a lot of these ladies, this is their first time at the tournament ground. What they are doing right now is very impressive. Offsetting experience in these fields is giving us a chance to win. They are not scared to compete. We are not here to wait our turn. We are here to kick the door down.

  • Mia Nixon and Lauren Nguyen are in the lineup and haven't had a lot of reps. We don't expect bogey-free weeks from them, but we want them to give us what they can give us. If that is a 68 for Nixon and a 72 for Nguyen, that will help us shoot 16-under in a round. Things are starting to happen better for them. Nixon and Ngyuen are just as important as what Borovilos is doing.

  • The day should be celebrated, but we weren't across the finish line. We beat the No. 1 team in the country, and that is impressive. Maybe we didn't do as well on the last day as we wanted, but we had 54 really good holes and beat a bunch of teams that were ranked ahead of us.

  • I think it's nice that we've done this without having a lot of reps with the weather. We are excited because the more time we have with this bunch, the better we get. We haven't arrived yet. We haven't accomplished anything yet, but we are moving in the right direction.

  • The girls had the weekend off. We practice today. We had a couple of girls qualify for the Clover Cup in Phoenix. We are taking all six who qualified, so we should get competitive reps from everyone. After spring break, we go to Fort Worth.

  • We are only a month and a half away from the postseason. We are continuing to stack good days.

  • The Houston and Florida tournaments were steps forward. Even if it's a step to the side, it's not a step back. The final round wasn't a disappointment or a bad thing. It was an opportunity to learn.

  • There is still growth happening, and it hasn't even turned into a march yet. With all A&M sports, they are just getting started. Michael Earley has his best ball coming up. Buzz Williams last night had a great learning moment. They would much rather have that happen now than in a month.
