The Squaw Valley thread inspired me to ask for info on Victoria Country Club. My son plays there on Wed/Thur for 3A regionals. Is anyone on here a member? Any info on the course would be appreciated.

We're not going to get a practice round in, so any info on green speed, hazards, bail out areas, etc. would be helpful.

Not a member (very amateur overview)

Played it a few times, nice course. Our kids played it several times in high school.

Greens can be unforgiving, like fast.

Nothing else stands out.

It's better to miss big than small, lots of short to medium height trees just off the fairway that can be difficult to play from. Some holes the tee shot is easier going down another fairway. Gotta keep an open mind

I am a member and live on #5.

Greens can be tough but also working through some issues so they are planning on slowing them down to let them grow in a bit. Got stressed and chemical mixture wasn't working well so regrouped and looking better now.

#1 - par 5. Water on left near green can sneak up on you (comes out from green about 15 yards so unless comfortable with shot into green make sure to lay back short of the water for your pitch shot. Balls will also feed toward and into water with approaches.

#2 - par 4. Tough hole. Just try to get it into turn in dogleg so you can have decent shot at green.

#3 - par 4. Long difficult hole. Green especially difficult. Be mindful of huge ridge running through it.

#4 - par 5. Avoid bunker near right front of green. Comes out into fairway probably 40 yards. Right side of green very difficult with slope going hard left to right.

#5 - par 4. Tough driving hole. Keep left but avoid trap at dogleg.

#6 - par 3. Long difficult par 3 with ton of slope in green. Even tough for mini tour and college players.

#7 - par 4. Short hole. Usually a shorter club off tee. Keep middle to left as water on right comes into play. Green has massive slope going left to right. Must avoid left bunker. If wind up on correct shelf not too bad putting but it is quick toward water.

#8 - par 3. Same direction as 6 but shorter hole. Just avoid bunker. Again nice sloping green so if can stay below the hole not too bad.

#9 - par 4. Dogleg left. Want to avoid fairway bunker on right.

#10 - par 4. One of the tougher holes. Dogleg right to a raised green. Don't go over the green. Can play from 11 fairway is hit big slice off tee.

#11 - par 4. Fun hole. Usually not a driver off the tee. Dogleg left. Putts break toward creek.

#12 - short par 3. Just go for front or center of green depending on pin. Favor left side of green as it slopes left to right so influences speed putting. Again breaks toward creek.

#13 - par 5. After drive hole plays shorter than yardage. Putts generally don't break as much as you would think coming down the slope.

#14 - par 4. Avoid fairway bunker on right. Uphill second so add 5+.

#15 - par 3. Just have to try and get on same shelf as hole.

#16 - par 4. Depending on how far he hits it and tee location you can just play it right up the cart path left of the fairway and tree at dogleg (or even left of that). If need to play traditional pretty tough long hole. Green slopes hard left to right so favor left side of green with approach.

#17 - par 4. Green goes hard right to left. Avoid water on left at green. Favor right side of green with approach.

#18 - par 5. Want to try and hug left side of dogleg and avoid bunker at turn of dogleg. From there play up fairway to either tree at 125 or up right side front of bunker if going for it to avoid water at around 90 yards on left. Tricky green especially back right area.

Hope that helps and best of luck!!

Might be one of the best course scouting reports I have seen in a while. Wish my son would have something like that before his district tournament.

#10 - par 4. One of the tougher holes. Dogleg right to a raised green. Don't go over the green. (Me; golf ball graveyard, but cleared up some recently) Can play from 11 fairway is hit big slice off tee. (Me: if he can hit a high draw, possibly play over edge of trees to right. If a draw player do not play center of fairway. OB gets tight with a neighborhood road.)

#11 - par 4. Fun hole. Usually not a driver off the tee. Dogleg left. Putts break toward creek. (Me: I have known a few longball hitters try and go over the trees on the left getting greedy, and it looks kind of tempting. Even though some of those appear to be recently trimmed out, it is a fools errand here)

(Me: wide fairway, but slopes left. Great birdie op here, as ddub96 said, it is deceivingly shorter than your eye tells you after the drive.)

#15 - par 3. Just have to try and get on same shelf as hole.

#18 - par 5. Want to try and hug left side of dogleg and avoid bunker at turn of dogleg. From there play up fairway to either tree at 125 or up right side front of bunker if going for it to avoid water at around 90 yards on left. Tricky green especially back right area.

Firs thing, I am not a member at VCC, but played this course prior to my hiatus of 12 years, from time to time, and a couple of recent rounds since I started back up, these holes really stick out in my mind. ddub96's account is spot on here. Great scouting report by ddub 96.

Historically, VCC's greens have been some of the best I have ever putted on, and I was very concerned about them after playing in January and am glad to hear they have evidently identified whatever problem they had/are experiencing and hope the corrections play out as intended. Victoria needs those greens.

"Green" is the new RED.
