Let's see how many players will use them and if it will drastically improve the pace of play.

I think players spend more time BS'ing around and on the greens than they do on their approach shots.

Just let them use slope and get it over with.

I am glad they're trying it out.

Curious to see how this goes. There will undoubtedly be some guys that will treat this like a belt and suspenders. They'll still walk it off and then use the rangefinder for confirmation (or vice versa). Wouldn't shock me if it actually slows play.

It doesn't speed anything up. The time is waisted on the greens and guys who are just slow. It has nothing to do with getting yardages. I've caddied in pro tournaments with lasers....its still slow

Good caddies get all these numbers very quick and often before the player gets there.

I tend to agree and don't caddie in pro tournaments.

Just last week at the Masters Scottie stood there on the box staring at the wind for 2 mins while he waited for it die down. Not judging it trying to decide where it was coming from but just sitting there waiting for it to die before he hit.

HIT THE DAMN BALL

100% this. Anything that helps. And for Christ's sake let them get relief from divots in the fairway. That is the dumbest rule in the book!

That'll never happen but I get your point.

I wouldn't even tie it to being in a divot (that will just lead to disputes over what's a divot). My rule would be, if you're in the fairway, you can move your ball up to 6 inches, as long as it's not closer to the hole.

The greens are the problem. Aimpoint, overanalyzing, a routine where they address the ball then back off again every time, etc. That is where so much unnecessary time is spent. Rangefinder or not; tee shots and approaches are fine unless they are in a spot of bother and need some time to determine a strategy (and maybe need a ruling)

I say put a putt clock behind every green. You get one warning bad time and the next is a stroke.

I like that concept and the improved lie if you're in a fairway.

I'd add:
-stop raking bunkers
-you must hole out once you've started putting. Stop this marking of 2 footers. I'm not sure I'm describing the situation clearly.

Do y'all think getting rid of caddies would speed up play? If you ain't got nobody to discuss the shot with, maybe you would come to a quicker decision.

I don't think caddies are the problem - I think it's more of lack of real consequences.

It's the greens. I have played behind The Tech and LCU teams plenty of times here in Lubbock. They are quick to get to the green and then SLOOOOW.

No caddies would slow it down even more. Then they would have to get their yardage (or use range finders), rake their own bunkers, clean their clubs, get their refreshments, still go through their head about all the options, read the wind, and have no one to assure them they have the right club and shot plan.

Slow guys are slow and there is zero incentive/punishment that makes them change.

I'd also argue getting rid of aiming lines on the ball. Way too much dependence on those lines and the endless micro adjustments the players make. If you can't aim w/o a line……too bloody bad.

I'll consider this if you can tell me when a divot ceases to be a divot.

Only freshly made divots? What about sanded ones? What about divots that have the actual grass patch put back on them? What if it's 25% grown in? 50%? Wait a minute, is that actually a divot or just a mower scrape? Etc, etc.....

Play it as it lies!! Bad breaks (and good breaks) are part of the game.

if I had it my way any ball in the fairway could be moved one club length no nearer. I don't think a bad break in the fairway should exist.

If you fly a ball into the woods and it ricochets back into the fairway, should you have to go drop in the woods? Or you're only interested in fixing bad breaks, not good breaks?

I was waiting for the "unfair" comment. Golf isn't a fair game. If anybody ever told you it was then they lied to you.

Play it as it lies!

That is true. I'm a fast player and noticed I take more time reading the putt than anything else. Of course I'm still much faster than the pros but if you want to make putts, you need to see which way it's going

It's just "information"... they still have to make the shots.

Rangefinders should have been allowed years ago.
