I appreciate the pros at my home course keeping 5's on absolute lock-out. Again, no one ever thinks their 5 is a problem. I also question 5's playing games where a certain order of play is required. Trust me, you aren't going as fast as you think if you are going 5's and not ready golf.

I can't imagine paying for a private course and not being able to play with 5. That'd be no fun at all.

People need to play ready golf. And not every putt should be treated like the 18th at the Masters.

Was playing solo in the evening and got caught behind a 3-some. All had their own cart. All would sit and watch the entirety of the other's routine, then shot, before starting their own routine (which was WAY too long for hacks of this caliber). And of course, no hint of considering anyone playing through.

I skipped them after two holes.

I'd rather play behind a slow 5some than CPO. my real nightmare is a 5some in front of me and CPO during a hot summer day. I'd quit on hole 3.

reality is that groups of all sizes need to hurry the eff up. You want a practice swing...you get one. You want to walk a putt twice...be proactive. If someone in your group is talking...do not wait for them to stop talking so you can start your routine.

I've played one course where on the scorecard it says double bogie is the max you are allowed on each hole. I don't love that but it sure made for a quick round of golf.

Nah it's definitely more situational. My brother and I typically shoot in the 100s. Never had formal lessons other than the Golf 199 classes at A&M. We play very fast. Very rarely does it take the typical municipal 4 hours. We were first off the tee last weekend and our group of 4 played in under 3 hours. If it's just us, it'll be right at 2. Only time we take over 4 is if we are stuck behind others like you were.

In my personal experience the players who take the longest shoot in the low 90s and take forever trying to read greens. Just like the pros, they take to long. That and people ****ing around on their phones or drinking too much

If you're gonna suck, have spatial awareness and suck fast. That's what we do.
this is what it is like playing with my FIL....all rounds with him seem to last 5 hours. Takes forever on the greens. Granted he's out of shape and moves slow, but he has to line his ball up, stand over the putt for what seems like a minute, etc. Drives me crazy especially on busy days at the course when I know we are holding people up. It would be one thing if he was shooting in the 70's, but no need to drag out a round in the 90's.

now that I think about it he's slow AF with his irons too. He doesn't play ready golf. Always wants the person out to go first. Doesn't start his pre shot routine until the other person hits. now I'm getting frustrated.

Since I only play public courses, ready golf is the biggest thing for me. We inevitably get paired with guys who will sit in their cart on their phones or chatting instead of getting ready to play. Or they will go to one ball and go through the routine and hit, then go to the other ball rather than splitting up.
