Good week for both Phillips and Champ. Both finished at -15 and currently T14.

Agreed. He seems like a whiner.
Body language is turrible, which compounds it.
People think I'm an idiot or something, because all I do is cut lawns for a living.

Man, they eviscerate Craig Ranch. They're just so long.

While it's not awesome to watch on TV or anything, it shows better than Trinity Forest or TPC Las Colinas ever did. Very odd that there is so much elite level golf courses in DFW, but nothing really suitable for a PGA event for various reasons.

Wonder if they'd consider moving it to Frisco.

I would think that would be a no-brainer.
They might have a contract with the current venue since it is spending a lot of $$$ Renovating that course.

But I would think once that contract expires, if there is a contract, then the tournament would be moved to Frisco.

i think this is the solution. make it like Quail Hollow. Have a yearly tournament there and when the majors come make it nearly impossible.

I don't know how many times this has to be said, but the Nelson will NEVER move to PGA Frisco. That course is run by the PGA of America, which is a totally separate entity from the tour, and they are going to keep it for PGA of America events, not PGA Tour events.

Club Corp and CJ are spending huge money to update Graig Ranch and keep the tournament there for the long haul. Despite the always crappy field and weather risk this time of year, crowds are huge and they raise a ton of money.

Yeah, those 2 entities are not the greatest of partners, so I don't see it moving either. Scottie did obliterate it, but the rest of the leaders were actually higher scores relative to par vs the past few years. -17 was good for 5th this year vs 13th, 14th, and 25th the past 3 years. Switching to rye was a help as the rough was 3.25" vs 2.5", so the course looked better and was ready to be a bit tougher. That said, the massive rain during the week to soften it up followed by perfect weather with little to no wind on the weekend offset some of the changes

It's always going to give up low scores given there is little water that comes into play, not a lot of tree trouble, and decently wide fairways (8th on tour). But we'll see how the reno does in toughening it up a bit more.

Cam finished 8th in SG putting. That's insane for him. It's always been the worst part of his game and he was outstanding on the weekend. He was 6th in feet of putts made. Surprisingly, he was only 45th in SG off the tee. Usually he's in the top 20 in this stat, even when he misses cuts. If he was better off the tee he would have been in the top 5. Hopefully he can build on this next week in Myrtle Beach.

Chandler was great on approach (21st in SG) and GIR (T9th).

Nice payday for both of those guys.

The tour calendar, the weather, and the courses have really killed this tournament. Its really at the bottom of the barrel for the Tour these days, unfortunately. I agree that playing at Frisco would be the obvious answer, but like others have said, not sure that the politics of the Tour vs PGA America will allow that to happen. Can't really fix the calendar or the weather, so might be stuck with the current product.

I saw Cam play a few holes yesterday. Funny you mentioned driving. I was standing behind him on #5 (a par 5) expecting him to pull the driver out. Hits 3-wood instead into to right rough. He's clearly unhappy, sits down on a chair and just says "efff me" while shaking his head. I knew the feeling very well.

Cam is in as an alternate at the PGA event in Myrtle Beach this week. Hopefully it's the start of a good run of golf for him.

pgatour.com is showing him as in the field in Myrtle Beach. He was an alternate for the Byron.

I don't disagree that those are all factors in the decline of the tournament. However, the real issue is that Byron Nelson is no longer there. He would do so much to get the pros to come like hand-written invitations and phone calls that no one else could do. The pros showed up for Nelson and the tournament at Las Colinas treated them like kings. I think it's lost that vibe.

TPC Craig Ranch is completely torn up as of yesterday when I drove by.
