This is apparently another good looking course in the NE sandhill region I had no idea about. Anyone played it? Looking at you NcoloradoAG.

One guy in our group knows some members but we haven't been able to work it into a Landmand trip yet. Course is in BFE even for Nebraska so we've tried to get cabins with no luck.

Looks like its only 20 or so miles from Mullen (Where Sandhills is)

Might try to squeeze this course into Nebraska trip in July. I doubt there are times available but worth a call

I got an email from notice form them the other day. Never heard of it so after looking it up I marked it on my Google Maps. Now the courses noted in that region include:

Dismal River
Pelican Beach
Sand Hills
Augusta Winds
Cap Rock Ranch
The Prairie Club

Didnt have Wild Horse - thanks for the addition.

I had Landmand but didn't mention it since it was more on the Sioux City/Omaha side. On that side I also noted Dakota Dunes, Omaha Country Club and Arbor Links.

Dismal has had a number of financial issues over the years. The original Nicklaus course was poorly done and they had to make a number of changes. I am not a fan. The second course is really good. The only issue has been course conditions which weren't great a couple years ago. I haven't been there since.

They also have a lot of other activities like long range shooting, canoeing, fishing, etc

Landmand is a long ways away but Wild Horse is a must play if you go to the Sand Hills for golf. Their rates have gone up a lot though. It is now sky high by Nebraska standards at $104 during peak periods with cart. I miss the days of $50 with cart like it was a few years ago.

Bayside down the road from Wild Horse might be worth a try, too. It's a more budget friendly option.

Played in a tournament at Wild Horse last October and made a stop at Dismal River. The Red Course (Doak) was amazing. A lot of shots framed by the sandhills in the back ground. The White Course (Nicklaus) had just punched the fairways so wasn't the same experience. Some good holes and the layout was nice but Red is the way to go. If flying into Denver, then Ballyneal would be another option. Plan on a lot of driving.

Ballyneal isn't available to the public so you would need to have your club call or know a member. It's rated a top 50 course in US (Though I wasn't a huge fan)

Landmand is about 5 hours from Prairie Club, so not sure I would include them in the same region. Landmand is really easy to get to if you can score a tee time.

Is it hard to get on at Dismal River if you don't know a member?
I've played Wild Horse several times and it's fantastic. Haven't played the others mentioned. I can't believe how much great golf is in Nebraska.

I used the Thousand Greens app and was able to connect with a member but there are probably other ways. Earlier this week I got an email from Tx Golf Assoc for a play package out there.

Got the same email. That's what prompted this thread

Dismal River is pretty receptive to pros calling for their members. It's the most interesting property (landscape wise) of all of them in the sandhills. It's about 7 miles from Sand Hills as the crow flies. As stated has been bought and sold many times. It is VERY remote. Pretty rustic accommodations as well. Solid food, but not top notch or anything. As stated the Red (Doak) course generally more well regarded, but the Nicklaus course is on cool land but probably 4-6 strokes more difficult and probably due for a bit of a renovation (but still worth playing).

In that area you have:

Wild Horse (public)
Bayside (public)
Dismal River (36 holes private)
Sand Hills (private)
GrayBull (private Dormie)
Prairie Club (semi-private - 36 and short course)
CapRock Ranch (private)

Further East (within 1 to 1 1/2 hrs of Omaha) you have:

Landmand (public - closer to Sioux City, IA)
Lost Rail (private near Omaha)
Omaha Country Club (private)
ArborLinks (private Dormie - 1 hr south of Omaha)
Indian Creek (public - KornFerry)
Quarry Oaks (public - recently renovated and scenic)
