I played Cedar Crest (CC) 30 years ago. It was a dump. Some friends invited me to join them yesterday. I was reluctant, remembering the course of 30 years ago, but I decided to go. What a joy it was.

First, just a fun track. I didn't recall this from 30 years ago but it is a Tillinghast design. I didn't know we had one in Dallas. It also hosted the 1927 PGA Championship.

Besides all of that, several interesting and fun holes. A couple of tee boxes you have great views of Downtown Dallas. The tee boxes, while not perfect, are significantly better than Tenison or even Brookhaven CC. The fairways are in immaculate condition. The greens are still recovering from punching and sanding. I'm guessing in another week or so they will be pretty nice.

The clubhouse is fairly new, obviously new from my visit of 30 years ago. And it is staffed with nice folks. One more positive, maybe because of its location it is not nearly as crowded of it's more well known sister courses.

Two negatives: 1. The sand traps; I will never understand jerk offs that don't rake traps after their use. It seems as if not a single golfer had ever raked a trap. The 18th green trap was laughable. I suggest management place more rakes per trap (there was basically one per trap) and they should be the long poled wider rake type. The short pole small rakes makes it more of a chore. 2. Just not a fan of gas golf carts. If you're a walker, great course for walking like most old courses are like that. I think there were more walkers than cart riders.

In summary, if you're playing in Dallas give this course a try. I found it super enjoyable. I hope its conditions hold up through the summer and I didn't just happen upon it after a nice and wet spring.

Cedar Crest is great. Frankly all the Dallas city courses are good IMO.

Except Tenison Glen... it's a perpetually flooded, mosquito ridden ****hole

Cedar Crest was really good. The area its in, not so much. There was an absolute brawl in the street next to the 7th fairway when we played that almost ended with someone getting in their truck and trying to run other people over.

Also we were paired with the slowest people we've ever played with that had zero regard any type of pace of play. More concerned with sitting in the cart on their phones waiting for the other person to hit

I've played 83 courses in the area and Cedar Crest is among my favorite. Hard to beat the value and the central location. Great layout and a good mix of easier holes (1, 2, 8, 12, 13) and difficult holes (3, 7, 10, 18). Good for golfers of all levels and always in really good shape. One of my favorites and probably my most commonly played public course due to location (muni's are about all that is central to Dallas proper)

Pretty good course, played last week (so punch greens were much worse). Par 3s are a beast from the back tees. I base my tee choice off total yardage, which is misleadingly short here. Some shorter par 4s but long 3s.

Definitely a good walker course since it's on a pretty tight footprint. I will knock the slowish pace of play.

The one huge plus is it doesn't get near the play of the other Dallas city courses, so usually easy to get a tee time.

Pace of play is terrible out there but love the layout. Did they finally get the greens in order? Last few times I went out there the greens were in rough shape.
