I recently moved to the Brenham area and curious if there are any recommended courses in the area. I played the Brenham course and is was ok. I have heard legends is a goat track. I would like to find a decent club I could join. I am within 35 miles of Pebble Creek and not too bad of a drive to Traditions so considering both. Curious if there are others to consider. Thanks.

The Covey at The Big Easy Ranch. If you are willing to drive to BCS I'd go south the same distance.

People rave about Darmor too but I haven't played it.

Man you never know; just thought I'd contribute. Traditions isn't cheap ($30ish) but yes nothing like The Big Easy. If the logistics were even close to doable/feasible I'd join 3 years ago. Luckily a good friend already did!

Blackhorse in Cypress is just down 290 is another option.

I would vote against this; freaking tournaments there all the time.

Yea Traditions is about the most I would be willing to spend and only after I retire when I have more time to play. I appreciate the input.

They recently took the south course private and upped membership fees. Still have to fight the tournament traffic in the parking lot, but I've been told it's a much better experience for the members overall.

It use to be a public course. I stayed in the cottages a couple times and really enjoyed the course. Too bad I didn't start playing it until about a year before it closed down. New ownership redid the whole place and turned it private. I believe theres a poster or two that are in the loop and could be of some assistance.

Update - Just found a post from 2022 that mentions a $100k initiation fee and $1,500 a month in dues. Crazy if true.

It's not that much anymore. I was looking into it last year but decided to stick with Bellville.

I just don't completely trust the current business model/longevity of what the falls is/was. It's a shame Troon doesn't run it anymore. With the area growing and lack of quality public's in the area it's a great spot.

We bought a lot at The Falls a couple of years ago. Met the billionaire owner, who was a nice enough guy, but doesn't really care if he gets members or not. We sold the lot ( on 10 green looking down 10 fairway and 11 fairway ) upon hearing the monthly dues, and the guest fees were going to be 250.00. Recently had our first grandchild ( anchor baby ) in Georgetown, so I'd say we're playing it out here to the finish line.

I can't remember if Traditions still has the out of town membership, but must live a certain distance away. But sounds like you have checked them out. I'm in the same boat, live in the area and have to drive to play a decent course. But if you could afford it The Covey at the Big Easy is the nicest course by far around in the area. Really surprised that a nice course wasn't ever built around the Chapel Hill area.

I actually live in Washington just outside Chappell Hill. The Covey is nice but $100K initiation is an amount I am not willing to spend? Quality golf courses in the area has been my biggest disappointment. I will also checkout Blackhorse in Cypress.

Sterling took over Brenham although not sure when they got it. They typically will make improvements.

Strange area with Falls, Big Easy, and Darmor. Wouldn't think that area could support 3 high dollar clubs.

Sterling took over Brenham CC around 2 years ago. I haven't played out there in over a year, so can't speak to the current state, but I thought it was a solid rural track for the price. Especially when the only other similarly priced options are goat ranches (Hempstead & Navasota).

Lot of old local and retired houston o&g/lawyer money in that area to support the high dollar clubs.

Makes sense. Big Easy came around the time when Falls was closed down for a few years?

Although when I played it seemed like the only money in that area was the original owner/ wife. My personal best golf course bass was out there.

Brenham is fine. It's okay for what it is but I think it's a bit overpriced for the quality.

Maybe I'm spoiled but I played BCC last month and the conditions were very meh. It's a fun tract though for sure.

Welcome to small town golf.

You can join the local golf course for under $200 a month or you can drive close to an hour and pay 3x as much somewhere else.
