Public BREC courses are easy to get on in the afternoons and all worth a round. You can do your tee times on GolfNow for all of them. I lived on Santa Maria for a while and it's a fun course. If you don't mind the drive, I highly recommend Beaver Creek too. SM is the BREC flagship course, but conditions at Beaver Creek are often a little better. Webb is a typical older muni course; the local nickname is "Webble Beach". I would also recommend playing City Park. The course was built in 1922 and is a shorter 9 hole course. Hole #7 is a deceptively hard par 4, so be careful with your tee and approach shots.

Don't bother with the campus LSU course. It's horrible and they don't keep it up.

I also enjoyed playing Copper Mill. It's also northeast of downtown like Beaver Creek, so a bit of a drive. CM has thicker rough in places.

I can't speak to the private courses or Pelican in Gonzales. BR Country Club is nice, though.

Late afternoon traffic on I-10 is going to be the deciding factor. You will find it impossible to get from Prairieville to Zachary (or vice versa) in time for a 5pm tee time. Where are you staying in BR?

I'm not sure yet where I am staying. I just found out about this work trip a day ago, so I expect Monday or so I'll find out the details. I'll be there the week after next.
