Looking at installing a turf putting green for the first time in my backyard. Total area will be just shy of 500 sq feet and putting green is just under 300 sq ft.

Anyone have any tips before things get moving?

will be removing 5-6" of dirt
adding 3" of road base. Compact
adding 3" of decomposed crushed granite on top of that. Compact wet and compact again
Cutting holes for cups and using mortar mix to keep in place

Probably adding a landscape fabric
turf on top and green infill sand 1 pound per sq ft.

I plan on trying to keep the area relatively flat.

there will be other steps involved but that's the main bit of it. Let me know any suggestions that you may have for this.

Are you installing a turf or carpet that requires sand?

Pay very close attention to the grades and slopes. I picked a spot for mine while our house was under construction and the now backyard was just dirt and weeds and basically can't putt to two of the four cups because of the speed. Something you'd think our installer would've picked up on.....

For this very reason I'd personally suggest not cutting cups at all and using the sit on top pins / flags so you can move them around as you wish and not have cut cups in the way of any putts or chips you decide to practice.

If it were me, I'd ask for a gentle 2 tier green with both tiers being relatively flat, but just a little slope.

Another thing I learned is don't put too many cups in the ground if doing permanently. Make sure you can make a 10+ft putt. Mine is closer to 800sq ft and we only have 3 cups.

I'm looking to convert an area roughly 500 sq ft into a putting green. It is currently turf, professionally installed. No grading required, just swapping out the turf. Any ballpark idea what this might cost? I'm about to get a few estimates.

Where's the Windmill. There has to be a Windmill.

Just to be clear, this was not a humble brag post. That is not my yard. I work in the turf industry and was asked to help out on a project for a prominent Aggie family. That is the smaller putting green, the larger one is USGA certified, which I didn't even know was a thing.

Very cool setup, and yes that small green is about the size I'm going for.
