Playing again is the youth phenom Asterisk Talley. She finished in 2nd last year, one stroke off the leader. I always figured Stanford would get her ... and they did, darn it.

Press release for 2026 Augusta National Women's Amateur

AUGUSTA, Ga. Texas A&M's Cayetana Fernandez Garcia-Poggio and Vanessa Borovilos are set to compete at the prestigious 2026 Augusta National Women's Amateur April 1-4.

The first two rounds take place at Champions Retreat April 1-2. The top 30 golfers and ties will have the opportunity to move onto the final round at the historic Augusta National Golf Club Saturday, April 4. All golfers will have the chance to have a practice round at Augusta National Friday, April 3, regardless of if they make the cut.

Borovilos tees off at 7:23 a.m. Wednesday to begin the tournament, while Fernandez Garcia-Poggio starts at 8:44 a.m. Golf Channel is set to televise the event from 12:30-2:30 p.m. for the first two rounds and 11 a.m.-2 p.m. for the final round at Augusta National. Live stats for the event can be followed at anwagolf.com.

Fernandez Garcia-Poggio is making her fourth appearance at the ANWA, dating back to 2023 when she finished fourth and became the first Spaniard to log a top-10 finish at the championship. The junior has made the cut twice and is currently ranked No. 27 on the World Amateur Golf Ranking.

Borovilos is making her fifth trip to compete at Augusta National, having participated in the Drive, Chip and Putt competition four times. The Canadian was the 2018 Girls 10-11 Drive, Chip and Putt National Champion and is one of two golfers in the field to have won that tournament previously. Borovilos is the No. 25 ranked amateur in the world.

The Aggie duo has Texas A&M women's golf ranked No. 3 in the country with just its home tournament, the "Mo" Morial Invitational, left in the regular season April 6-8. Head coach Gerrod Chadwell has now had eight golfers compete at the ANWA with Borovilos joining the list this week.

End of first round status

In her first trip to the Augusta National Women's Championship Vanessa (SO) is in a three way tie for 3rd after the first round at Augusta National Women's Amateur with a -6 score. The 17 year old phenom Asterisk Talley is one of those she is tied with. They are only one stroke behind the two leaders, one of them being the NCAA #1 ranked player from Arkansas, Maria Jose Marin, and the other another 17 year old, Soomin Oh from South Korea.

Cayetana (JR) is tied with one other player at 57th, with a +3.

Other players I am watching are Schremmer, T23 at -1, and Farah O'Keefe, the tu player, also T23 with a -1. O'Keefe is currently the NCAA #2 ranked player.

Vanessa is nationally ranked at #12 and Cayetana at #18.

Great job, Ags, and keep it up tomorrow !!

Borovilos safely on to the final round at 5 under. I believe there will be a playoff since there is a 5 way tie for 28th and the top 30 make the cut.

Asterisk Talley in the lead by 1. She came to my wife's baby shower a few months ago. By came I mean she walked through the club house while it was going on. She is from a town in CA about the size of Brenham.

yep. It's derived from the Greek asterikos meaning "little star" ...which she apparently is.

Better than some of the travel ball names I've seen.

Borovilos Finishes Tied for 11th at Augusta National Women's Amateur

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Texas A&M's Vanessa Borovilos shot even par in the final round of the Augusta National Women's Amateur at historic Augusta National Golf Club Saturday to finish in a tie for 11th.

Borovilos's round was highlighted by a magical chip in on No. 12 "Golden Bell" that brought her one of the five bridies on her scorecard for the day. The Canadian shot 5-under 211 in her debut at the Augusta National Women's Amateur (ANWA). The sophomore was one of five SEC golfers in the top 11, including 2026 ANWA champion Maria Jose Marin of Arkansas who turned in a 14-under 202 to win the tournament.

Borovilos is the third golfer in program history to place in the top 15 at the ANWA, joining Cayetana Fernandez Garcia-Poggio and Jennie Park who came in solo fourth and tied for ninth, respectively in 2023.

The All-American is the No. 24 ranked amateur in the world and won the 2018 Girls 10-11 Drive, Chip and Putt National Championship at Augusta National. She rejoins her team at the 22nd "Mo" Morial Invitational April 6-8 at Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas, to wrap up the regular season.

The Aggies are ranked No. 3 in the country with four team titles this season under the direction of head coach Gerrod Chadwell.
