My 8th grader is playing his 2nd year of golf. He's been using my 25 year old clubs with my old steel shaft driver. He needs something with a little bigger sweet spot and a lot more pop. I'm a once year or two golfer so I really don't know what to look for any more. I've been perusing marketplace for a used driver maybe built this decade but don't know what i should look for or stay away from? Anyone have suggestions on something that will be in the $150 or less range?

His coach says to look for a used Ping G2, G3, or G4? I haven't come across many used Pings for $150 or less that didn't look like somebody had been hitting rocks with them. Anything else similar to a PING I should keep an eye out for?

I have a Mizuno ST190 that my son used for a few years. He outgrew the shaft (Kai'li Blue), so we bought a newer driver. It should work well for an 8th-9th grader. He's a junior in high school and used it up until this year, then hit a little growth spurt.

They're going for $140 on 2ndswing, I'd sell if for $100 if you want. Where are you located?

We're in Bryan/College Station. My kid's pretty big for an 8th grader. Already 5'9", 175. He probably won't slow down growing any time soon, so I'd like to get him something that is sized for him now and hopefully for the next year. I'd have to take your advice on if it would be a good fit for him?

Yeah, I doubt it would be the right fit for him. My son is 5'8" and weighs less.

My son who ended up playing College Golf used a M2 up until college. The M2 head is still really good if you can find a good used one? But the shaft is where you would want to concentrate the effort. Finding one that works with your swing is the key.

I have a launch monitor if you want to test out some shafts.

Impact Precision in Spring TX talk to Trevor or Major and let them handle the rest. My son went from shooting some decent scores in college golf to contending after he found the right shaft combination with the help from Impact Precision Golf in Spring!

If he's 5'-9" and 175 pounds, there no "sizing" a driver. Either spend the money on a professional fitting and get him a driver with a shaft to match his swing speed or go to one of the Big Box Stores and let him hit a few there. Do it right and forget the used clubs, it all depends on how serious you and he are about the game.
