Yes, the wild card is definitely player/agent confidence as to whether 2026 checks clear. If that confidence is high, then I expect most to see the year and then go. But if it's wavering - which it sounds like it could be, the exodus starts soon

You don't think these guys are looking forward to having to sue MBS in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia?

And LIV supporters are strangely quiet over PIF basically tanking the whole thing on a whim. You would think after all those complaints about how the tour mistreated players, this would warrant some sort of response. Will nobody think of Lee Westwood?

Yes, our fan of The Kingdom and expanding golf to Saudi Arabia has been absent

Ultimately this was a state sponsored whim done with the luxury of **** you money, made some already rich guys more rich, but otherwise fractured the game for 5 years.

are you suggesting these guys are going to sue MBS and/or Saudi Arabia?

1) where would they sue and what "judge" would rule against MBS and live to tell about it?
2) rule #1, don't negotiate with terrorists....rule #2, don't sue terrorists

In the long term, this will make the game stronger. People pushed the game and the business. Folks that want to alter the game know what works and what doesn't work. There are huge market opportunities in Australia and South Africa. Team golf is not a weekly draw. I do wish the Olympics would adopt a LIV style format with countries vying for team medals for 3 rounds and then the top 40 after that play a final round for individual medals. Pro golf can't deviate from 72 holes. While it sounds like a good idea, no cut golf weakens the players. The pga changed and players will appreciate what they have/had.

while LIV might've fractured the game for a handful of years they made all the players A LOT MORE MONEY then they would've had had they not poached some of the top players.

Yes, thank goodness we can make sure these guys get more $$$ and we get to watch a few more minutes of dick medicine commercials per hour to pay for it

More like a Bob Does Sports episode instead of a professional tournament

No one's ever really doubted the demand for professional golf in Australia, etc. The question is how to convince the best to go down there for it. The obvious answer to that is "money," but it would probably need to be an outsized payday because it's literally halfway around the world. And because of the time difference, it really doesn't lend itself to a US TV market. So, basically, without a sugar daddy willing to pay for it for little to no return, it's probably going to be tough to get an event there which includes the world's best regardless of the local demand.

Places like Australia and South Africa have some demand for golf but it is only feasible for 1-2 times a year given the logistics, money and global golf calendar. LIV golf miscalculated what they thought they would do in the US market.

Agreed. I was just responding to the post above that LIV somehow showed that pro golf was an untapped market there. Yeah, if you have $50 mill to burn to put it on, people will show up. But the hard part is the $50 mill to burn.

I don't think anyone who watches golf cares about the purses or what kind of bonuses players have. Their prize money isn't the aim as a fan.

The difference being is it has never been a "business" and the "private equity funding" is a sovereign wealth fund that wanted a golf league seemingly for fun and has been lighting money on fire, but now may be tired of that.

I think a big part of this was Bryson seeing an opportunity to flame LIV and help drive another nail in the coffin

Is the course at Gessner and Beltway 8 in Houston gone? Looks like LIV could have played there.

I've always thought that was a piece as to why LIV guys are often seemingly not ready for majors. The courses they play on are trash

Short term the only winners in all of this are the top 10% or so of players. Good for them, but everyone else lost.

Long term though I think the fans will come out ahead. If anything this showed that, aside from peak Tiger, no single player or even group of players is bigger than the whole of the tour itself. Still plenty of room for lower lever tours, but we need the best 150 or so mixing it up 20-25 weekends a year.

I still think LIV had hand shake agreements with several top players that could have really shaken things up but the Phil interview and timing on other things just screwed it all up and likely scared said players from leaving the tour.

I have no doubt there were plenty of guys that wanted to take the bag, but once Jack and Tiger reportedly turned down 10 figures LIV's fate was sealed. At the end of the day golf is a niche audience. The idea that you could "grow the game" by ignoring your core audience was flawed from start.

I wonder what golf would look like if the PGA tour would have taken the call from the Saudi's like the LPGA did.
