Anyone going? Daughter and I are going Sunday, it's always a really cool event especially if you have young lady golfers in the family.

Just like basketball, most LPGA players are better at fundamentals than the men. You rarely see 3 putts or balls in the trees

Looked dead out there on TV today. Even Nellys group only had like 30 people following. Busy this weekend but next year will try and go.

Total derailment here on my part but FWIW the women aren't actually better at the fundamentals by many, if any, metrics. From every single distance they track (even 3 feet), men putt better (make a higher percentage) than women, and do it on faster greens which makes it even more difficult. There are a lot of other examples too, and basketball follows the trend as well.

Not trying to crap on women, but it's a myth that they are better at the fundamentals. I do enjoy watching women's golf and absolutely respect their game. Basketball, not so much, haha.

To totally derail the thread, we didn't go this year but the attendance on TV looked atrocious. Even over the weekend, that really surprised me. How long can Houston keep the major if the crowds don't show up? I seem to have read somewhere that one of the complaints from the players was the smaller crowds, and that was at Carlton Woods, the attendance at Memorial was no where close to that, or at least it looked that way on TV.

We have gone the last 4 years and the Sunday crowds have always been good, Thursday-Friday not so much. Never been on a Saturday.

We liked Carlton Woods WAY better than Memorial Park. Also the stupid jumping pond was just, well, stupid, like jumping in a kiddie pool and not at all like the lake at CW. CW was just set up and run way better to us.

Attendance was up 10% YoY, setting a new high for the event and for all of our SeatGeek-ticketed events outside the Solheim Cup.

63% of fans onsite were 55 or younger up 20 percentage points from 2025 and among the youngest audiences we've seen in recent memory.

Sunday's final round on NBC peaked at more than 1 million viewers, and Saturday's third round was among the most-watched third rounds in championship history.

Golf Channel coverage across the first three rounds was up 45% YoY.

On social, The Chevron Championship delivered the LPGA's strongest tournament week of 2026, including the highest engagement rate of any domestic event across all platforms this season.

Perfect example of perception versus reality. The back nine at Carlton Woods was practically unwalkable for spectators as there was no where to cut across without walking almost every hole. So very few people did. The vast majority of spectators stayed around the clubhouse, 9, 18, and the driving range / 1. So less people, more tightly packed together gave the allusion it had better attendace.

Memorial is much more walkable and spread the spectators out (except for following Nelly). It also had a lot more opportunities for spectators to sit in shaded grandstands around the course. Something CW really didn't have. We sat in the suites open to the public on 15 for the Chevron in the shade with AC bathrooms instead of having to sit in the scortching sun like we did for the Houston Open.

So much better experience all around in year 1 than a 2 hour drive to CW. Not to mention a comperable parking shuttle siutation in the heart of the city.

And with it being the first year of the new location, it should only get better crowds as people that never paid attention to it before start to take advantage of it being at the same place as the Houston Open just a couple of weeks later. Especially if they start to target and market to the average Houstonian that isn't a golf fan, let alone follow LPGA.

Attendance up YOY and they still had to give away free tickets for the final round. Doesn't seem like a great sign.

Not exactly unusual for the LPGA.

Free tickets for people that wouldn't have paid otherwise still gets you concessions, marketing opportunities, and merchendise sales. Not to mention someone who will potentially be a future fan.

I'm not debating the strategy. I'm lamenting that it's necessary in the final round of a major in one of the largest markets in the country.

The majority of the market is indifferent to golf in general. And a large part of the minority that does enjoy golf looks down upon women's golf. Just look at this thread. Some of it is macho insecurity. Some is ignorance. Some us just plain indifference.

Reality is there's only so much time and money to go around and the PGA is going to get the majority of it. Much of their crowd as well isn't golf fans, but good time corporate entertainment suites and free tickets to clients. LPGA doesn't have that kind of budget or marketing pull.

So instead of corporate suites give aways you get free GA tickets. Same concept, they just don't have the corporate write offs behind it.

Nelly Korda is such a shtty putter. Credit to her that she still wins but she would run roughshod over her competitors if she was just decent with the putter.
