My son is playing in a TJGT event in a couple weeks on May 27/28, how's the course looking/playing currently?

Coming down a day early, get some practice in, walk around campus and planning to show him just about everything while we are in town between rounds, etc. Looking forward to the trip.

played a few times recently with my kids who go to tamu. The greens are great. Fairways are ok in spots, really rough in others. They have a lot of "native grass" areas by the fairways which are basiclally unmowed weeds. We lost some balls in there and finally played it as you can take a drop no penalty. Is that called "gallery rules"?, where if you were a pro playing with a gallery they would find it? Maybe that's not purist but that's how we played it. Only other thing is sometimes if you play Friday morning the range is closed for the KINE golf class.

The short game practice area is really nice, couple of traps and another green for chipping.

It's not fancy but it's fine. Since your son is playing a tournament if I was you I'd be down the fairway in the landing area so if his tee shot goes in one of those "native grass" areas you would be able to know where it went. I always did that for my kids HS golf tournaments...

We play there regularly and my daughter plays 6 or so STPGA events there every year. No matter what the conditions are, treat the native grass areas as jail, I repeat JAIL, treat them as water hazards because they basically are.

Last time I played it was 8-9 years ago when I was in town for a superintendents association tournament. Played well then, but was weird seeing it for the first time since graduating in 08. Worked there at the course for a couple years before my last year at Traditions.
