Gonna call it Bayou City Golf Company.. gonna be apparel and eventually a YouTube channel showcasing courses around the state of Texas.

very cool...there are so many gem courses around the state that are unknown. I would interested in following that.

If you/he wants some unsolicited feedback:

1. Switch to performance/polyester hats e.g. Imperial brand or similar. Don't see too many plastic/cotton trucker hats on the course.
2. Get a logo. Golf people are logo people. Starting with words only might be fine, but you're going to want a subtle but cool logo especially with a generic name.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Bayou City Golf Company is a bit of a mouthful and just busy.

I think just having the magnolia and "golf company" would look really cool on those caps.

I would also not have "established 2026" on anything

Thank you!

Agree on just the logo.

Stand by for a strongly worded letter from Augusta National!

If we're giving feedback...If he sticks with Bayou City Golf Company then his logo needs to somehow related to Houston.

The magnolia flower looks great but it doesn't have a connection to the Bayou City so it comes off as random.

You'll capture more of the Houston golfers if you can connect the logo to the city of Houston with something cool and catchy.

"Bayou City Golf Co" or "Bayou City Golf" would work.

Get rid of the rope or at least offer a ropeless option.

to be fair one of Houstons old nicknames is the Magnolia City

agree on calling it Bayou City Golf or Bayou City Golf Co

This is probably nit picking but why is the star over Waco if it's Bayou City?

Bayou City Golf Club

Maybe use AI to merge golf concepts with Houstonian iconography (Be Someone sign, NASA, Ship Channel, etc.)

Idk if that connects with the feel he was going for, but that's my initial thought.

This whole thing sounds like some AI slop. Every hat design picture looks AI created. Not having the star on Houston is an obvious question mark.

The idea of starting with merch and then having a YouTube channel sounds backwards. Why would anyone buy merch for something that doesn't exist yet? The YouTube presence creates the demand for people to buy merch from it.

Also, there doesn't seem to be a website that is googleable. Nobody starts a business that is going to sell merch without a website to sell said merch.

Looking at your OP the star looks to be on Waco which seemed odd to me. I hope he makes a million but this business looks to be a tough one.

The Branding of the company stacks too many niches on top of each other. Golf is very narrow big picture and not everyone lives in Houston. He needs a more broad appeal. What if I live in Ohio and I am going to my son's baseball game? Why would I grab this hat as a head out the door? Zoom in - what if I live in San Antonio and I am going to play golf - why would I grab this hat or line of apparel?

That is my concern as well. A golf apparel company that's really only marketable to consumers in a single metropolitan area? Purely a guess on my part, but I'd be surprised if Houston has more than 500,000 regular golfers. Seems like very tough sledding to limit your business to such a narrow audience.

If he is going to showcase courses around the entire state he would be better off calling it TX Golf Company imo.

Best of luck! The market is getting flush with options which is good. As some have mentioned above, it's hard to differentiate and it's also hard to take market share from Imperial, Millar, FJ, etc. Good time to be a consumer because there's a lot of options at all different price points.

It seems like "golf co" merchandise is the new trend/hobby/whatever you want to call it. Seems like there is a new one popping up everyday. Good luck, hopefully he can come up with something to set himself apart from everyone else.

A friend from graduate school, who lives in Houston, started a golf brand (hobby) last year called Alchemy so far it's going pretty well.

Check out this social media, offerings, etc. it may generate some ideas for your son and best of luck to him.
