With the Byron Nelson here this week, probably a popular qualifier.

Yes, most of the qualifiers on June 8, but this one had to be set up to make it convenient in coordination with the Nelson

Kind of sucks for those wanting to qualify for the Nelson

There are 10 sites on June 8. This isn't the only option.

I mean the guys that chose the US Open over trying to qualify for the Nelson.

I just mean they don't have to choose one over the other. The USGA works with them based on their availability and location, so if a guy is going to try to Monday qualify for the Nelson, he can almost assuredly get himself assigned to a June 8 Final qualifying location. They typically have one site in May in proximity to a tour event that week (oftentimes in the Dallas area with the Nelson and Colonial in that timeframe) to make it easier for PGA players to fit it into their schedule, while the rest of the US based ones take place on one day in early June.

Graeme McDowell grinding… 10 year exemption for past winners has expired from 2010.

There were roughly 10 local qualifying tournaments in TX/OK/NM/LA/AR but the ONE final qualifier spot in the area was the same day as the Nelson qualifier. The closest June 8 qualifier is Georgia.

I understand how it all works, as there will be lots of tour guys at the OH qualifiers the Monday after the Memorial, but it seems silly and maybe shortsighted the USGA would schedule this on the same day as a Monday qualifier.

Anyone know if they allow spectators? Normally seems like it's easy to attend qualifiers but looks i don't see anything specific to the dac so in wondering if its not open to outsiders.

From AI

Quote:

Spectators are entirely welcome to attend U.S. Open qualifiers, including the 36-hole event held at the Dallas Athletic Club. You do not need to purchase tickets; entry is typically free, and you can freely walk the course to follow the action. [1, 2, 3]
What to expect:
  • Low crowds: You won't have to fight large galleries or navigate grandstands.
  • Close access: You can get up close to the action and easily hear players and caddies.
  • Amenities: These are run like standard amateur tournaments, meaning there are usually no concession stands or public ropes, and you should plan to walk the whole 36 holes on foot. [1, 2]
Because golf rules apply, spectators are asked to remain quiet during play, stay a safe distance from the fairways and greens, and dress appropriately for a private club environment. [1]

I think the club is allowing spectators. It's typically closed on Mondays, though so don't know. I didn't see any spectators today.

I walked over and saw a few holes between meetings today, but I live ~150 yards away and know someone that lives on the course, so just sat on his back porch.

Really surprised to see so many people making a mess of Gold #17. That's typically my easy hole coming in that gives me hope before I inevitably screw up #18.

Man I hope Sam can pull this off. Dude has had a rough go of it since missing the PGA tour by one spot.

If Sam makes a few birds down the stretch he's got a good shot of making it.

He'll likely need two. Half his competition hasn't played Blue 13 yet, easy par 5.

Other side on Gold, most still have two par 5s to go and a short par 3.

Chandler has a better chance than Sam at this point. But likely going to need to get to -5 or at least -4.

Didn't realize it was all 36 today. Lots of guys walking off mid round.

Damn, Chandler lost in a playoff! He's designated as alt 1 so I guess he just missed out.

There's a pretty good chance Chandler will get in as 1st alternate here and there's two paths for that. If anyone who qualified today at DAC drops out then he's in. The second, and more likely, way is that all 5 or 6 spots the USGA reserves in case someone gets in to the owgr top 60 between now and right before the tournament aren't filled or an otherwise exempt player drops out. In that case they go by qualifier field strength and Dallas is normally top 2-4 in that ranking so he would get in.

I'd say it's more likely than not he'll make it.

These qualifiers and Monday qualifiers in general always remind me of how difficult it is to attain and maintain status on tour. It's so unforgiving.

Seeing that the winner of the playoff birdied the first playoff hole and everyone else parred.

One guy withdrew and the rest had a playoff for alternate spots … with chandler prevailing.

As mentioned … good chance the Dallas alt 1 gets in. It's happened the last three years.
