So three rounds > cut to 16 > fourth round > top 8 match play.

Right?

I'm hosting a company trip at La Costa in June and spoke to the head Pro earlier this week to set up a golf day. He said to make sure we tune in to see the course in extremely tough conditions. He said it is going to play fast and pins will be tucked. Their goal was to make it hard on the guys.

He promised they would cut the rough and native areas back down before our group got there!

only half the field on the course but not a good start to say the least.

Brutal start, already 3 double bogeys on the scorecards. C'mon Aggies, time to turn it around.

Well, 15 teams haven't started … let's hope the wind blows harder as the day goes on.

Stabilized a bit and hopefully the front nine is gentler. San Diego on the other hand is destroying that back 9. 10 under right now. Wow.

A +7 and a + 8 … counting a 7 hurts.

Good news is only 6 of the 15 out are even or better. Predict our score will move up but that +7 is gonna leave a mark.

Might be time to substitute another golfer. Breaking 80 should at least be a minimum expectation.

BYU doesn't have a tee time set for today. I guess they'll cut 14 teams today and if BYU makes the cut tomorrow morning they'll let 16 teams play for the Top 8 rather than the usual 15.

At least that's how I assume they'll handle it.

From Grok

Yes, BYU does not play on Sundays for religious reasons.
BYU (Brigham Young University) follows Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) teachings that emphasize keeping the Sabbath day holy, which includes not competing in athletic events on Sunday. This policy applies across many of their sports programs.
How It Works for NCAA Men's Golf 2026
The NCAA Championship stroke play runs Friday, May 29 Monday, June 1 (with a 54-hole cut after three rounds).
The third round is scheduled for Sunday, May 31.
To accommodate BYU, the NCAA allowed them to play their third round early on Thursday (as a solo round with no other teams on the course). They shot 1-under as a team.
This means BYU has already completed their 54 holes (or however far they got depending on the cut) by the time Sunday arrives. They won't have a tee time today while the rest of the field plays.
The NCAA has made similar accommodations for BYU in past years (and for other schools with religious observances). BYU expresses gratitude for the flexibility, though it can create unique challenges like playing alone.
If BYU makes the cut to the final stroke-play round (Monday) or match play, they'll participate on those days instead. You can check live scoring on sites like Clippd or NCAA.com for their updated standings.

That seems fair(ish). Thanks.

This link doesn't show their Thursday round, so I guess they finished +9 if that -1 from Thursday is accurate.

Yeah… I looked at their detail thinking it would show a round three and no. I'm thinking the posted score is their final three round total to par. If not I guess they may be 1 less to par … either way doesn't look like they are making the cut.

Sports should be scheduled as it is and if BYU can't make it they forfeit. Doesn't matter whether it's baseball, golf, whatever.

Hope this doesn't jinx us but Ags having a day … -7 right now (would be a tie for lowest round of the day) and on the cut line …. Let's go boys!

Ags finished ~ 26th of 30 and missed the 54 hole cut.

Auburn and UCLA for championship today.

On golf channel late today.

Real sorry to see that. Was thinking that with some luck we might have snuck away with a natty. Not a big golfer guy myself, but I run the cart path at Gleannloch Pines virtually every AM which I'm about ready to do.
Peace for Ukraine!

It's probably been discussed before but why is the university of texas-austin the permanent host school for this tournament? Arizona State was host when it was played here in Scottsdale. That's explainable.

So why are they the permanent host? I get that it's hotter here in Arizona this time of year but why isn't a more local school hosting? I guess I just hate them too much.
